Human beings do not receive facts as disembodied processors. We receive reality through bodies, memories, families, languages, trust networks, institutions, wounds, hopes, worship, habits, and identities. A fact does not arrive in a vacuum. It comes through a channel and lands inside a meaning frame. That is why some facts are easy to update and others feel existential.
If a weather forecast is wrong, the correction may be simple. If a doctor's diagnosis contradicts a person's hidden belief that a faithful life guarantees health, the same kind of factual surprise becomes a spiritual and existential crisis. If a church learns that a leader has abused power, the factual claims matter, but the community's meaning frame also comes under pressure: Who are we? Whom did we trust? What did our language protect? What must now be repaired?
Many fields already name parts of this experience. Cognitive dissonance names the strain among beliefs, actions, and self-understanding. Predictive processing names the role of top-down expectation and bottom-up error. Meaning-making research studies the gap between global meaning and the meaning of a particular event. Narrative identity research shows that meaning often takes the form of a developing life story. Trauma research shows that events can rupture safety, trust, power, esteem, intimacy, memory, and moral orientation. Motivated reasoning and epistemic vigilance explain why source trust, belonging, and identity shape whether facts are received at all.
The distinctive contribution is ordered integration. These parts already exist in neighboring fields, but under live pressure they must stay visible together: signal, pressure, channel, receiver, action, and review. That sequence matters because a person can have accurate data but low capacity, trustworthy testimony but no agency, or a powerful meaning frame that blocks the very channel carrying correction. The practice earns its value by keeping those distinctions visible when pressure itself is pushing people to collapse them.
