# Closing: The Faith That Holds

<a id="closing-the-faith-that-holds"></a>

The book may close at a kitchen table. Someone has asked a question you cannot answer. A child is restless. The coffee is cold. One of the short answers is underlined, and another still feels difficult. Nothing about the room looks finished.

That is an honest place to stop. A catechism is not a certificate that the questions are over. It gives the Church words sturdy enough to bring back to Scripture, prayer, worship, confession, the Table, a hospital room, and a grave.

You will forget some of those words. Return without drama. Read one answer. Open its Scripture. Ask the question that remains. If you have sinned, come into the light and make repair. If you are wounded, seek care without being hurried. If death is loud, stay near the Church's oldest confession: Christ is risen, and bodies will rise.

The faith does not hold because you can keep every answer in your head. The Father has acted in the Son; the Spirit gives life; Christ gathers and keeps his body. What you learn here is meant to become prayer on the way to work, an honest sentence in conflict, bread received with thanks, and hope spoken when the room is dark.

Close the book when it is time. Keep the next true sentence near. Then live it with the people God has given you.

## A Closing Prayer

> Lord God, hold us in the faith once delivered to your people. Teach us to receive your truth, love your Church, repent without hiding, suffer without pretending, and hope in the resurrection of the body and the life of the world to come. Amen.
