# Source Contact and Claim Cards

<a id="source-contact-and-claim-cards"></a>

Coherence becomes useful only when it survives contact. Claim Cards make that contact visible. A claim should not leave the reader guessing where it comes from, how strong it is, what kind of relation it uses, or where it might need correction.

Strong claims are easy to repeat after their warrant has been forgotten. A sentence such as "technology forms people," "abuse is anti-communion," or "mathematics witnesses intelligible order" may be true, but each one touches different sources and carries different risks. A Claim Card keeps the claim attached to the ground it actually stands on. It asks: What is Scripture doing here? What is science or history doing here? Where is this only an analogy? Who could be harmed if the claim is used carelessly? What evidence would force correction?

Claims stay truthful when they remain in living contact with reality. A source is not an isolated silo of truth; it is a created contact surface inside one order that must align under Christ. Scripture governs Christian teaching, worship, correction, and hope through genre, history, canonical unity, original-language care, translation, the Church's reading, Christ as center, and embodied fruit. Doctrine carries the tested grammar of Trinity, creation, incarnation, sin, grace, Church, resurrection, judgment, and new creation. Tradition guards continuity while calling self-protective institutions to repentance. Public history anchors claims in texts, persons, places, dates, witnesses, artifacts, and communal memory. Science describes mechanisms, constraints, measurements, and material histories. Philosophy clarifies causation, personhood, knowledge, morality, and metaphysics. Psychology and social science describe cognition, formation, trauma, habit, groups, and institutions. AI, systems, and information research make compression, mediation, grounding, feedback, failure modes, and governance visible. Clinical care and lived practice show what claims become in bodies, victims, communities, worship, institutions, and repair.

Because each contact surface is partial but real, a mature claim keeps assertion, warrant, scope, risk, and possible correction visible. This is disciplined love of truth: created reality stays prior to models, the personal Logos prior to structural language, sources remain attached to their actual contact, vulnerable persons remain visible, repentance remains possible, and resurrection remains the final horizon of repair.

Authority and evidence maturity are different questions. Scripture can govern doctrine even when an exegetical question is difficult; a broad professional consensus can establish a current clinical or technical judgment without governing doctrine. Original-language and textual witnesses clarify what the biblical text says. Early Christian sources show how the apostolic confession was publicly received and guarded. Later doctrine states developed boundaries. Contemporary scholarship and professional evidence describe their proper fields. A debated reconstruction, minority reading, or authorial synthesis may still be fruitful, but it must be named at its proper strength and cannot bear more weight than its source contact allows.

<a id="three-ledgers-one-reality"></a>

## Three Ledgers, One Reality

Every major claim is entered in three ledgers that answer different questions. The ledgers do not name three kinds of truth. They prevent one kind of support from borrowing the authority of another.

Internal confessional adequacy asks whether a Christian claim arises from original-language Scripture in literary and canonical context, remains recognizable within the apostolic rule of faith and early reception, respects conciliar and confessional boundaries, and distinguishes direct exegesis from later doctrine or DDF synthesis. "Internal" does not mean private, subjective, or exempt from public examination. It names the sources and rules internal to the confession whose adequacy is being tested.

Public explanatory fit asks how the claim fares beside publicly inspectable historical, empirical, philosophical, and experiential evidence and the strongest rival accounts. Scripture can be examined publicly, but its canonical authority may not be counted as a premise already granted by a reader outside the confession. Public fit is earned through scope, depth, coherence, constraint, anomaly handling, rival discrimination, and willingness to revise bounded conclusions. Shared explananda must be stated before their Christian interpretation: intelligibility, consciousness, rational trust, moral obligation, suffering, agency, historical testimony, formation, institutional corruption, death, and hope. Sin, grace, worship, and resurrection may then name DDF's interpretation of that field; they cannot be smuggled in as neutral data a rival has already conceded.

Embodied fruit asks what the claim forms when it becomes worship, habit, counsel, institution, technology, law, or use of power. It examines truthfulness, holiness, repentance, justice, protection of the weak, communion, and concrete repair. Fruit is not public-relations success or consequentialist proof. Good effects cannot make false doctrine true, and bad effects do not automatically disprove a true confession. Persistent corrupt fruit can, however, falsify an application and expose a bad interpretation, omitted mechanism, or self-protective institution.

Ledger Verdicts

The confessional ledger records adequate, disputed, or inadequate. The public ledger records superior fit, competitive, underdetermined, or contradicted. The fruit ledger records faithful, mixed, corrupt, or untested. These judgments are never averaged. A claim may be confessionally adequate but publicly underdetermined; empirically strong but doctrinally non-governing; or practically effective while resting on a false theological explanation.

The order of presentation matters. DDF names its Trinitarian thesis at the beginning and then submits its explanatory claims to cumulative testing rather than pretending to discover the Trinity at the end of a neutral inquiry. It moves through created data, compares rival accounts, and asks whether the Christian synthesis carries the widest explanatory reach. That is an abductive discipline: comparison by scope, depth, coherence, constraint, unification, rival discrimination, embodied consequence, source integrity, and revision discipline. A claim that sounds reverent but does not increase understanding, diagnostic power, source contact, or embodied truth does not belong in the core architecture.

Doctrinal disagreement follows the same rule. Acts 15 shows the Church discerning Gentile inclusion through Scripture, testimony, debate, and apostolic judgment. Galatians shows Paul confronting a gospel-distorting practice. 1 Corinthians handles disputes over resurrection, Eucharist, sexual ethics, gifts, and unity. 2 Peter warns that hard apostolic texts can be distorted. The rule of faith, Irenaeus, councils, Vincent of L\'erins' Commonitory 2.5--6 and 23.50--59, confessional traditions, hermeneutics, and social epistemology make disagreement accountable under canon, Christ, received confession, communal judgment, visible fruit, and the twin dangers of private novelty and institutional self-protection.

Christian discernment precedes modern audit technique. Acts 15 joins Scripture, testimony, debate, communal judgment, and a written decision. First John tests spirits by confession of the incarnate Christ. The Didache 11--13 tests itinerant teachers and prophets by teaching, conduct, money, and endurance among the community. Irenaeus tests secret novelty against the public apostolic rule of faith. These are not modern risk frameworks, but they already refuse private self-authentication and join truth to embodied fruit.

Claim Cards then draw Stephen Toulmin's claim analysis, evidence grading, risk governance, and controlled vocabulary into that older Christian judgment. Toulmin supplies claim, grounds, warrant, backing, qualifier, and rebuttal, with the Purdue Online Writing Lab's "Toulmin Argument" as a public teaching summary. The CDC ACIP GRADE Handbook, especially chapter 7, separates certainty of evidence from recommendation strength. NIST's Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework (AI RMF 1.0) adds a govern-map-measure-manage workflow for risk. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy entry "Theory and Observation in Science" keeps data, theory, models, values, risk, and evidence in one conversation. ISO 25964 / NISO thesaurus materials and the FAIR Guiding Principles add controlled vocabulary, qualified reference, interoperability, and reusability. Other SEP controls keep the same judgment philosophically disciplined: "Models in Science," "Scientific Representation," "Structural Realism," "Scientific Discovery," and "Scientific Revolutions" clarify model, mechanism, representation, theory change, and reality-contact; "Fine-Tuning," "Platonism in the Philosophy of Mathematics," "Indispensability Arguments in the Philosophy of Mathematics," and "Structuralism in the Philosophy of Mathematics" keep mathematical intelligibility and its alternatives visible; "Compatibilism," "Free Will," "Foreknowledge and Free Will," "Moral Responsibility," and "Moral Responsibility and the Principle of Alternative Possibilities" keep formed agency, responsibility, providence, and alternative accounts from being handled as slogans. "Abduction," "Scientific Explanation," and "The Unity of Science" keep explanatory power explicit: the framework must earn wide synthesis by disciplined scope, depth, unification, and source contact rather than by rhetorical sweep.

Source weight also includes time. Scripture's authority is not dated in the same way as cosmology releases, AI system cards, pangenome data, or public-health guidance. Fast-moving sources carry dates, versions, and release contexts: the exact DESI 2024 and DR2 papers named in the source trace; NIST AI RMF 1.0 (2023); NIST AI 600-1 Generative AI Profile (July 2024); Hanchen Wang and colleagues' "Scientific Discovery in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" (Nature, 2023); OpenAI technical reports and system cards only where a version is named; the Human Pangenome Reference Consortium's 2023 draft; Pew Research Center religious-demography reports; and clinical or public-health guidance from CDC, WHO, NIMH, NINDS, NIDA, and SAMHSA. A dated source can carry valuable contact with reality without being treated as timeless.

<a id="source-contact-contact-weight-and-relation-strength"></a>

## Source Contact, Contact Weight, and Relation Strength

Source contact is plural because created reality is layered. A source is weighed by the contact it actually supplies, not by prestige or rhetorical force, and then brought into alignment with the whole. A claim about Trinity, resurrection hope, sacrament, or judgment needs doctrinal confession: Scripture read through the Church's theological grammar. A claim about Jesus' crucifixion under Roman authority needs historical inference from texts, dates, witnesses, material culture, source criticism, and public memory. A claim about evolutionary genetics, cognitive bias, clinical care, AI reliability, or infectious disease needs empirical confirmation through observation, experiment, measurement, replication, prediction, guideline review, or field data. A claim about causation, personhood, moral realism, free will, or fine-tuning needs philosophical reasoning: category clarity, explanatory scope, alternative comparison, and coherence under pressure. A claim about a theorem needs mathematical demonstration inside a defined formal system. A claim about abuse, trauma, confession, reconciliation, or institutional repair needs pastoral wisdom in contact with embodied persons and communities. The same claim may need several of these at once: Scripture for final confession, history for public anchoring, science for empirical entity, relation, mechanism, function, history, scale, anomaly, and consequence, philosophy for category clarity, clinical care for danger and repair, and lived testimony for embodied consequence.

Four questions must remain distinguishable while working together. Authority role asks what a source or conclusion is permitted to govern. Source role asks what contact a named source supplies. Warrant path asks what reasoning connects that contact to the claim. Relation type asks what relation is actually asserted between the realities or typed loci joined by the claim. No source gains authority merely because its evidence is mature, and no analogy becomes doctrine merely because it is illuminating.

The controlled authority roles are: canonical norm; textual clarification; early-continuity witness; conciliar or confessional boundary; framework-organizing synthesis; created-field description; affected-person or case testimony; and prudential application. Source roles are: governing biblical text; lexical or textual witness; reception witness; doctrinal boundary; historical evidence; empirical mechanism or outcome evidence; philosophical analysis; clinical or safety guidance; and testimony. Warrant paths are: close exegesis; canonical synthesis; reception-history inference; doctrinal development; historical inference; empirical or causal inference; philosophical argument; abductive comparison; analogical transfer; authorial synthesis; and obediential or prudential judgment. Relation types are: lexical or syntactic; canonical or narrative; typological or fulfillment; historical or genealogical; causal or mechanistic; constitutive or part-whole; developmental or formative; analogical or parabolic; structural consonance or convergence; empirical instantiation; and normative or telic.

The strength of the relation must be named as carefully as the source. Relation labels are constructive: they show how a connection gains load-bearing force. A relation is strongest when the source contact is specific, the transfer path is named, the receiving domain is clear, the formed fruit is visible, and the purpose aligns with God. Unclear relations lose force when they borrow authority from a domain or discipline that cannot supply it, or hide the path by which one domain illuminates another.

Vocabulary resonance is entry contact: two domains share words such as feedback, constraint, memory, noise, repair, or scale. This is a search signal. It invites the next question: is the shared word hiding a real role, mechanism, telos, or formed consequence?

Analogy or parable transfers a focused pattern with named edges. Simulation language may illuminate dependence, interface, and constrained freedom; physical stabilization may illuminate the importance of contact and constraint. These images teach with real force when the transfer is explicit and the purpose of the image is clear.

Structural consonance means different fields mutually illuminate one another because their roles are similar even when their mechanisms differ. Habit, ritual, pedagogy, and institutions all form people through repeated practice, memory, attention, reward, identity, and community, but no one mechanism is transferred wholesale.

Structural convergence names the strongest role-preserving cross-domain recurrence. It appears across independent domains where the similarities, differences, direction of transfer, diagnostic use, limits, and revision triggers are stated. Its strength comes from precision: source, cause, authority, mechanism, moral meaning, and telos are all named rather than smuggled. Convergence earns the name when the comparison helps the reader see something that would otherwise be missed and could be narrowed if source contact changed.

Empirical instantiation has a different kind of strength. The pattern actually occurs inside a field: biology instantiates formation through development, plasticity, heredity, metabolism, repair, disease, aging, and ecology; misinformation instantiates corrupted mediation through fluency, repetition, identity pressure, authority transfer, incentives, and network spread; institutions instantiate durable mediation through rules, roles, offices, budgets, records, sanctions, rituals, and public memory; ecology instantiates embodied creaturely interdependence through air, water, food, soil, animals, infrastructure, toxins, climate, and policy.

The remaining labels name warrant paths rather than relation types. Abductive alignment means comparing which named account best explains a whole field of independently warranted data while stating priors, bridge premises, live alternatives, explanatory gains, and added ontological commitments. Compatibility is not confirmation, and no datum is counted twice merely because it appears suggestive in several vocabularies. Mathematical applicability and cosmological parameter sensitivity remain open comparative data, not design conclusions banked in advance. Doctrinal warrant names claims governed directly by Scripture and Christian reception: Logos, Trinity, creation, sin, grace, Incarnation, atonement, resurrection, judgment, sacrament, and new creation. Obediential warrant tests a practice or institution by embodied fruit under truth, repentance, protection, justice, and love.

Authority role, source role, warrant path, relation type, evidence maturity, confidence, and claim kind remain separate fields; they are not compressed into one letter grade. A claim may be high-confidence doctrine, frontier science, contested history, or a bounded analogy, and more than one description may apply without becoming interchangeable. Real connections across fields are welcomed because creation is one; they remain disciplined by exact warrant, source contact, relation strength, alternative accounts, limits, repentance, and love because creatures and channels can be wrong.

<a id="claim-card-workflow"></a>

### Claim Card Workflow

A Claim Card governs a claim by Christ, Scripture, truth, repentance, and love. Twelve logical dimensions govern every claim: claim; domain, discipline, and scale; claim kind; authority role; relation type; warrant path; three-ledger status; sources and source roles; strongest rival account; scope and edge; embodied fruit, risk, and protection; and revision trigger. They are deliberately distributed rather than falsely repeated. The primary governance profile supplies stable authority, source-role, ledger, protection, and currentness rules. Each printed card then exposes eleven local fields: exact claim; domain, discipline, and scale; claim kind; relation type; warrant path; local maturity and confidence; local sources and loci; strongest rival account; scope and edge; embodied fruit, risk, and protection; and revision trigger. A local card must state every departure from its profile. The Dependency Network may supply shared direct dependencies without repeating them on every card. Receiver dimension is optional where bodily life, the heart-mind or inner person, Godward addressability, or public-channel reception needs to be identified. Cross-domain claims especially need this discipline because a statement about physics, trauma, sexuality, economics, AI, ritual, or state power can fail by giving one claim kind or discipline the weight that belongs to another. The card asks what the claim reveals, what it hides, who becomes protected or vulnerable, whether it serves truth or image, and what warning or repair follows.

Each field has a specific job. Claim states the exact sentence being asserted. Domain, discipline, and scale separately names the created locus, the field that speaks, and the scale of contact: physics, biology, history, doctrine, cognition, institution, pastoral practice, technology, ecology, or worship. When used, Receiver dimension names how the claim contacts the one human person through bodily life, the heart-mind or inner person, Godward addressability, public mediation ecology, or a combination of these. Claim kind locates the sentence as empirical, historical, doctrinal, philosophical, clinical, pastoral, poetic, authorial synthesis, or practical guidance. Authority role states what the claim and its sources may govern and is inherited from the primary profile unless the card records an override. Relation type names the relation actually asserted. Warrant path identifies the reasoning by which source contact supports the claim. Three-ledger status is reconstructed from the profile's ledger rule together with local maturity and confidence, rival-account pressure, scope, embodied fruit, and revision trigger; those judgments may not be averaged into one score. Sources and source roles combine the profile's allowed roles with the card's exact local loci, each paired with the work it does. Strongest rival account names the best live alternative, not merely a list of rejected positions. Scope and edge locate boundaries and open questions. Risk and protection remain inside the embodied-fruit field so truth, justice, and love stay joined in application. Revision trigger names what would narrow, relabel, replace, or correct the claim.

Five moves keep claims grounded. Govern asks what center, authority, and final good guide the inquiry, rejecting system-worship, private novelty, charisma, and abstraction without love. Map asks what domain, discipline, scale, direction, and connection are actually involved: causal, statistical, structural, analogical, symbolic, moral, personal, institutional, theological, bottom-up constraint, top-down interpretation, feedback loop, symbolic mediation, receiver-level formation, or divine action. Weigh asks what sources carry the claim, how mature they are, and what alternatives remain. Apply asks what happens when the claim becomes practice, institution, technology, counsel, or worship. Revise asks what would narrow, relabel, replace, or deepen it. Inquiry, application, and worship remain joined.

Source contact stays exact. A transformer paper can carry claims about model architecture and attention mechanisms; sanctification and the soul need theological warrant. A clinical guideline can carry a safeguarding protocol; demonology needs confessional and pastoral warrant. A patristic source can carry continuity of theological grammar; a later denominational claim needs its own historical and doctrinal warrant. A cosmology survey can carry a dated measurement state; creation ex nihilo needs metaphysical and doctrinal warrant. A misinformation paper can carry diffusion and correction mechanisms, while moral agency remains a multi-domain claim about persons, channels, habits, incentives, and responsibility.

Revision is practical. A claim stands when accurate and specified; is refined when true but overextended; is relabeled when valuable under another warrant role or created domain; and is replaced when false, dangerous, unsupported, or structurally misleading. The visible standard is traceability:

> claim -> domain, discipline, and scale -> optional receiver dimension -> claim kind -> authority role -> relation type -> warrant path -> three-ledger status -> sources and source roles -> strongest rival -> scope and edge -> embodied fruit, risk, and protection -> revision trigger.

<a id="data-source-roles-and-alignment"></a>

## Data, Source Roles, and Alignment

Data means disciplined contact with reality, not prestige language. Manuscripts, inscriptions, clinical outcomes, sequence reads, model evaluations, census tables, ethnographic testimony, lab measurements, court records, and liturgical memory are different kinds of contact. Each arrives through a carrier, encoding, instrument, sampling frame, interpretive tradition, compression, incentive structure, and possible error. A source is useful when its job is named.

The source map is organized by jobs, not by prestige. Scripture and original-language work supply canonical vocabulary and confession: BHS, NA28/SBLGNT, Septuagint comparison, BDB, HALOT, BDAG, and LSJ keep Hebrew and Greek claims tied to words, genre, context, and canon. Early Christian witness tests continuity through the Didache, 1 Clement, Ignatius, Polycarp, Justin, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, and Cyprian's On the Unity of the Catholic Church 4--5. Nicene and later patristic sources, including Athanasius, the Cappadocians, Cyril, Augustine, and Maximus, supply developed support and doctrinal boundary. Councils, Aquinas, and Catholic, Orthodox, Reformed, Wesleyan, evangelical, Baptist, Pentecostal, and Anglican sources then preserve real continuities and real disagreements. These chronological strata of witness are not one flattened "tradition" source and must be cited for the exact work they perform.

The remaining source families are mapped in the table below rather than repeated as inventories. Public history establishes persons, witnesses, texts, artifacts, dates, and contexts. Natural science discovers and models creaturely entities, relations, mechanisms, regularities, constraints, functions, histories, scale-organized variables, anomalies, measurements, and dated model states. Clinical and public-health sources establish embodied risks, outcomes, differential diagnoses, and protection duties. Social, economic, legal, and technical sources establish institutional conditions, incentives, distributions, failure modes, and governance limits. Testimony establishes lived contact with harm, courage, healing, betrayal, and repair, while remaining subject to truthful and just testing. Method sources discipline inference, vocabulary, uncertainty, comparison, and revision. None of these jobs is interchangeable with canonical authority, and canonical authority does not make their local contact unnecessary.

Rival accounts also have a source role. They must be represented through their strongest historically defining or current primary proponents, not through labels assembled by DDF. Their explanatory gains, costs, success criteria, and live pressure on DDF remain visible. This is how a comparison can ask what each account explains, where each thins out, and what would count as a better reading of the same created reality without granting one account a protected standard.

Fast-moving sources carry dates and revision pressure. A public-health guideline, AI system card, DESI release, pangenome update, clinical review, or demographic report is a dated contact point, not a timeless oracle. Slow-moving sources can still be misused. A Gospel, creed, council, patristic text, confessional statement, or philosophical classic must still be tied to the exact claim it can support. The source question is always concrete: what contact with reality does this source give, what sentence does it support, what stronger sentence would exceed it, and what human risk follows if it is misread?

Source-to-claim alignment map.

The practical question is not whether a source sounds impressive, but what kind of contact it supplies. Scripture gives canonical authority. Original-language work gives lexical and syntactic contact. Public history gives event and context contact. Natural science gives mechanism, entity, relation, constraint, scale, function, history, anomaly, and measurement contact. Clinical and public-health sources give embodied outcome contact. Governance, economics, education, housing, disaster, and technology datasets give institutional and social contact. Testimony gives wounded or healed creaturely contact. Each source is also asked where it lands in the human receiver: bodily life, the heart-mind or inner person, Godward addressability, or public mediation ecology. These contacts strengthen the same account when each is asked to carry the claim it is actually able to carry. [^data-source-roles-and-alignment-1]

- Source family | Alignment job
- Scripture and original languages | Contact: canonical words, grammar, genre, covenant sequence, narrative pressure, and Christ-centered unity, including terms such as תּוֹרָה, the Levitical offerings, apostolic receive/deliver language, and resurrection firstfruits. Claim work: Christian doctrine, worship, moral order, hope, sin, grace, judgment, and vocation. Pairing: history, translation, pastoral wisdom, and embodied fruit keep readings from becoming abstract or privately invented.
- Creeds, councils, fathers, and received tradition | Contact: the Church's tested theological memory across dispute, worship, and pastoral practice. Claim work: doctrinal continuity, orthodox boundaries, and mature language for mystery. Pairing: Scripture remains the governing norm; later disputes need exact tradition-specific claim cards.
- Public history, archaeology, and textual criticism | Contact: persons, places, dates, artifacts, manuscripts, witnesses, and public context. Claim work: historical anchoring, source transmission, plausibility, public memory, and rival reconstructions. Pairing: theological claims require canonical interpretation; fragmentary history must not become speculative certainty.
- Physics, cosmology, mathematics, and information theory | Contact: lawful constraint, formal structure, measurement, probability, entropy, symmetry, action, scale, and intelligibility. Claim work: creaturely mechanism, coherence, possibility space, order, discoverability, and technical analogy where role correspondence is explicit. Pairing: creation, Logos, incarnation, and purpose supply the theological center; physics vocabulary remains creaturely.
- Biology, ecology, genomics, and earth systems | Contact: development, heredity, plasticity, metabolism, disease, repair, interdependence, environment, limits, and death. Claim work: embodiment, formation, creaturely dependence, animal life, ecological mediation, and material conditions for flourishing. Pairing: biblical anthropology and moral theology name dignity, vocation, sin, stewardship, and hope.
- Psychology, clinical care, and public health | Contact: habit, trauma, attachment, risk, diagnosis, intervention outcomes, population burden, comorbidity, and safety. Claim work: care, protection, discernment, formation, safeguarding, and revision of harmful practices under embodied consequences. Pairing: Scripture, pastoral wisdom, and personhood prevent outcomes data from becoming a complete moral account.
- AI, cybersecurity, media, and platform research | Contact: compression, hallucination, scaling, evaluation, adversarial pressure, privacy, surveillance, labor shift, and governance. Claim work: mediated agency, failure modes, attention routing, source contact, evaluation, and accountability at speed and scale. Pairing: human dignity, truth, justice, worship, and love determine what the technical system is for.
- Economics, law, politics, education, housing, and disaster data | Contact: scarcity, incentives, work, debt, trust, legitimacy, rights, schooling, place, resilience, migration, and institutional capacity. Claim work: public formation, policy risk, neighbor-love under constraints, protection of the vulnerable, and institutional repair. Pairing: prophetic justice, wisdom, Torah, kingdom teaching, and local prudence govern application.
- Lived testimony, victim testimony, and communal memory | Contact: embodied consequence, betrayal, harm, healing, courage, silence, belonging, and repaired or damaged trust. Claim work: safeguarding, lament, repentance, institutional accountability, and discernment of fruit. Pairing: testimony must be heard seriously and tested justly with Scripture, evidence, due process, and protection.

<a id="worked-claim-paths"></a>

## Worked Claim Paths

The first path is shown in full because it displays the whole transfer logic. The remaining paths are compact boundary demonstrations: they do not repeat the later domain evidence, but identify which source carries which part of a claim, where the theological judgment enters, and where the transfer would fail.

<a id="ai-and-sanctification"></a>

### AI and Sanctification

AI alignment research separates raw capability, trained direction, evaluation, feedback, monitoring, failure, and post-deployment governance. Vaswani et al.'s "Attention Is All You Need" can carry an architecture claim; Christiano et al.'s "Deep Reinforcement Learning from Human Preferences," Ouyang et al.'s "Training Language Models to Follow Instructions," and Bai et al.'s "Constitutional AI" can carry claims about particular training approaches; Farquhar et al.'s "Detecting Hallucinations Using Semantic Entropy" can carry its tested uncertainty method; named OpenAI system cards and NIST AI RMF 1.0 and AI 600-1 can carry only their dated evaluation and governance claims. That technical field instantiates a wider creaturely pattern: capability and trustworthy direction are not the same thing.

The mapping follows both recurring modes and real historical development. Capacity, source trust, framing, boundary, reference, practice, feedback, integration, and testing remain active in every era. Yet the canonical movement genuinely accumulates: Eden displays created capacity and adversarial framing; covenant and Torah intensify boundary, sacrifice, memory, and correction; the prophets deepen truthful diagnosis and hope; Christ is the perfect personal reference and fulfillment; and the Spirit forms deeper integration through Scripture, worship, confession, community, suffering, practice, and rest. Trials reveal what this whole history has actually formed.

The transfer becomes stronger, not weaker, when it is routed through the whole-person receiver. AI interface design touches bodily life through screen, voice, fatigue, speed, reward, repetition, and nervous-system load. AI language touches the heart-mind through attention, memory, imagination, desire, plausibility, trust, and narrative compression. AI authority pressure touches Godward allegiance when fluency, prediction, or technical power begins to redirect worship, confidence, discernment, or obedience. The transfer to Christian formation is analogical and doctrinally governed: sanctification is the Spirit's personal work of uniting believers to Christ and making them holy. The technical field supplies visibility; Christ supplies the living human reference; the Spirit supplies personal divine formation; grace supplies forgiveness, adoption, power, repair, and hope.

<a id="historical-jesus-and-resurrection"></a>

### Historical Jesus and Resurrection

Public history strongly supports Jesus' existence, crucifixion under Roman authority, early proclamation, early Christ devotion, manuscript transmission, and concrete first-century context. Josephus, Antiquities; Tacitus, Annals; Pliny, Letters; Galatians 1; 1 Corinthians 15; INTF/NTVMR; Meier's A Marginal Jew; Sanders's The Historical Figure of Jesus; Dunn's Jesus Remembered; and Ehrman's Did Jesus Exist? supply different kinds of historical contact. The resurrection itself is a historical-theological miracle and Lordship claim: public enough to be witnessed, textual enough to be investigated, metaphysical enough to challenge closed naturalism, and confessional enough to require trust in the risen Christ. The path fails when resurrection is treated as the same kind of claim as crucifixion, or when early belief is substituted for the event to which it bears witness.

<a id="mathematics-cosmology-and-parameter-sensitivity"></a>

### Mathematics, Cosmology, and Parameter Sensitivity

Mathematical applicability establishes discoverable relational order; cosmological observation establishes expansion, deep history, structure formation, and measured parameter constraints; sensitivity analyses show that some structures depend strongly on specified parameters. Wigner, Barnes, Planck 2018, DESI DR2, Fred Adams's multivariable analysis, and Simon Friederich carry different parts of that contact. A design probability additionally requires a defended measure, priors, parameter dependencies, target class, and treatment of unknown physics. Rival explanations remain visible: multiverse proposals, selection effects, deeper necessity, brute contingency, Platonism, structural realism, and naturalized accounts of mathematical cognition. DDF's creation claim is a later cumulative interpretation; the path fails when elegance, mystery, or parameter sensitivity is counted as completed doctrine.

### Evolution and the Image of God

Evolutionary biology describes biological continuity, common ancestry, adaptation, heredity, development, and deep time. The sources here carry deliberately different jobs: the National Academies' Science, Evolution, and Creationism states a scientific synthesis of evolution; Liao et al.'s "A Draft Human Pangenome Reference" reports one 2023 reference-resource advance; the ENCODE Project Consortium's "Expanded Encyclopaedias of DNA Elements in the Human and Mouse Genomes" reports functional-genomics annotations; and Powner, Gerland, and Sutherland's "Synthesis of Activated Pyrimidine Ribonucleotides in Prebiotically Plausible Conditions" reports a particular prebiotic-chemistry result. None establishes a doctrine of creation, personhood, or the image of God, and none by itself supplies the whole evolutionary bundle. The image of God is a theological claim about divine address, vocation, representation, worship, moral accountability, embodied communion, and Christological destiny. Human dignity does not rest on denying animal continuity or on any measurable capacity that would exclude infants, disabled persons, cognitively impaired persons, the elderly, or the severely ill. The path fails when science is weakened to protect dignity, or when biological continuity is allowed to erase divine address.

### Spiritual Experience and Clinical Discernment

Voice-hearing, visions, felt presence, night paralysis, panic, seizure, trauma response, psychosis, intoxication, grief, coercive control, and spiritual oppression require ordered discernment. NIMH's Understanding Psychosis, the American Psychiatric Association Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Patients With Schizophrenia, NICE CG155, NINDS's Epilepsy and Seizures, NIDA's "Treatment and Recovery," SAMHSA's Concept of Trauma and Guidance for a Trauma-Informed Approach, and CDC's "About Intimate Partner Violence" each carry a bounded clinical or safety role; Scripture and the exact patristic loci above carry theological and pastoral discernment. Clinical mechanism does not erase spiritual reality, and spiritual language does not cancel medical, safety, or legal duty. The path fails where intensity, fear, cultural script, family story, or leader confidence is treated as enough to name a person demonized, rebellious, faithless, or contaminated.

Scrupulosity is a decisive test of this boundary. Confession, moral examination, and pastoral reassurance can be received as good, but in an obsessive-compulsive cycle repeated certainty-seeking can function as a compulsion and train the very fear it briefly relieves. A pastor should give one bounded theological ruling, refuse repeated re-adjudication unless genuinely new evidence appears, and coordinate with qualified care rather than improvising exposure work. NICE CG31 identifies cognitive behavioral treatment including exposure and response prevention as a principal treatment and specifically directs treatment plans to reduce family or carer participation in reassurance seeking sensitively. Pastoral care remains present; it stops becoming the ritual that maintains the disorder.

The same discipline governs psychosis and unusual experience. Content, intensity, religious vocabulary, apparent response to prayer, or a community's familiar script never by themselves identify demonic agency. Assessment must include danger, sleep, substances, medication, neurology, medical causes, trauma, coercion, culture, and ordinary spiritual and moral formation. The Cultural Formulation Interview is one structured aid for asking how culture shapes the person's account and care; it is not a standalone diagnosis. <a id="church-abuse-and-authority"></a>

### Church, Abuse, and Authority

The Church is the Body of Christ and a necessary community of worship, sacrament, teaching, discipline, forgiveness, mission, and care. Every local institution, leader, movement, and denomination remains accountable to Christ through truth, repentance, protection, and repair. Scripture judges corrupt shepherds, false prophets, heavy burdens, devoured widows, and domineering leaders. SAMHSA's Concept of Trauma and Guidance for a Trauma-Informed Approach, CDC's "About Intimate Partner Violence," Smith and Freyd's "Institutional Betrayal," the governing law in the relevant jurisdiction, and affected persons' testimony carry different kinds of contact with embodied harm. The path fails where belonging becomes captivity, forgiveness becomes access, submission becomes silence, unity becomes image management, or sacred office shields abuse.

When the accused leader controls the ordinary complaint channel, that channel is captured for the case at issue. Protection then requires recusal, an independent reporting route, preservation of contemporaneous records, nonretaliation, qualified survivor support, and interim restrictions proportionate to credible risk while facts are assessed. Mandatory reports and emergency referrals follow the governing jurisdiction; church process neither replaces nor obstructs civil or criminal process. Final discipline requires fair notice and evidence, but "due process" cannot be used to keep a vulnerable person exposed until every question is resolved. A credible institutional repair also requires corrected records, restitution where possible, public truth-telling proportionate to public harm, and external review of whether rules, incentives, and leadership actually changed.

### Sexuality, Diagnosis, and Pastoral Care

Sexuality cases must not be compressed into one disputed label. DDF separates sexed embodiment, attraction, identity language, conduct, covenant status, distress, diagnosis, proposed intervention, consent, age, and power. Moral theology may assess conduct and covenant; it may not convert a moral disagreement into a clinical diagnosis. Clinical care may assess distress and impairment; it may not generate doctrine. No pastor or clinician should promise orientation or identity change, use shame or aversive practice, require public disclosure, force marriage as a cure, or make access to ordinary care depend on adopting a predicted outcome. The American Psychological Association's 2021 resolutions and its 2024 Chiles case summary identify the lack of demonstrated effectiveness and psychological risks of sexual-orientation and gender-identity change efforts, especially for minors. That evidence constrains interventions and promises; it does not by itself adjudicate Christian anthropology or sexual ethics. [^sexuality-diagnosis-and-pastoral-care-1]

<a id="cross-cultural-discernment-and-comparison"></a>

### Cross-Cultural Discernment and Comparison

Cross-cultural care begins with emic inquiry: what the person, family, and community call the experience; what obligations, dangers, body meanings, spiritual categories, and help pathways they recognize; and where power can make the reported consensus unsafe. DDF neither exports Western expressive autonomy as the neutral human norm nor lets "culture" excuse coercion, abuse, caste, racism, forced marriage, retaliation, or denial of medical care. Translation requires back-checking meaning in use, not only substituting words. A scale validated in one population cannot support a cross-group score comparison merely because it has been translated: construct, metric, and scalar comparability must be tested to the degree the intended inference requires. Measurement invariance is therefore a precondition for meaningful score comparisons, not proof that cultures are interchangeable. [^cross-cultural-discernment-and-comparison-1]

<a id="contemporary-applications-require-separate-cards"></a>

### Contemporary Applications Require Separate Cards

The temptation at this point is to collect unrelated clinical, sexual, economic, agricultural, and political controversies under one moral analogy. That would violate the method. A clinical intervention, a public-health recommendation, a housing rule, and an agricultural policy have different mechanisms, affected persons, authorities, evidence maturity, and revision conditions. Each requires its own dated card.

The transferable DDF invariant is narrower. Human sentiment is fallible; mercy remains ordered to truth and the creature's real good; unintended consequences matter; and systems analysis can trace how a practice forms persons or distributes harm. Empirical results govern the empirical premises and may correct a false description of persons, causes, functions, risks, or consequences. They do not by themselves establish a Christian doctrine or turn one present dispute into the interpretive center of the framework.
