# The Core Architecture

<a id="the-core-architecture"></a>

All tracks, especially facilitators and researchers. learn the working map: two axes, three qualifiers, three outcomes, and review over time.

The research leaves a simple design requirement: do not let fact mismatch, meaning rupture, channel trust, receiver capacity, and action blur together. The core architecture is the compact version of that requirement.

The structure is intentionally small: two axes, three qualifiers, and three broad outcomes. In the hard cases this model is built to handle, something happened. It violated an expectation, a meaning frame, or both. It arrived through a channel. It landed in a receiver with limited capacity. It called for action, waiting, protection, or review. Those parts are the minimum needed to keep truth from collapsing into either raw data or comforting meaning.

The architecture does not solve the breach by itself. Its first job is to prevent collapse: facts should not swallow meaning, meaning should not override facts, source confidence should not become gullibility, low capacity should not become denial, and analysis should not replace agency.

## Two Axes

- Prediction error: the mismatch between incoming reality and the factual model. The question is: What did I expect that did not happen?
- Meaning gap: the mismatch between incoming reality and the meaning frame. The question is: What meaning frame, identity, value, faith-claim, hope, or loyalty did this event threaten?

The two axes are separated because they often demand different repairs. Better evidence may lower prediction error without healing grief, shame, or betrayal. A deeper, truer meaning frame may help a person suffer truthfully without settling the facts. Confusing the axes creates bad care: data gets used to silence pain, or meaning gets used to dodge evidence.

## Recognizing the Breach

The first mistake in many hard moments is to name the pressure too quickly. A person may call something a spiritual crisis when the first problem is an unreliable source. A team may call something a data problem when the real resistance is that the data threatens a cherished identity. The following handles keep the two axes concrete.

- Pressure type | Common forms | First question
- Prediction error | Failed expectation, surprising result, repeated pattern, measurement, testimony, absence of an expected outcome. | What specifically did I think would happen, and what happened instead?
- Meaning gap | Threatened identity, loyalty, duty, hope, calling, moral order, theological belief, institutional mission, or family loyalty frame. | What does this event seem to say about who we are, what matters, or what can be trusted?

Meaning frames are not automatically false. They are how humans live: I am safe here; our family tells the truth; faithful work matters; this institution protects the vulnerable; God is good; suffering can be endured; my body can be trusted; the future is still open. Some meaning frames are truthful and need to deepen. Some are partly true but too simple. Some protect distortion. The question is whether a meaning frame can stay in honest contact with reality.

## Three Qualifiers

- Source trust: Which channel carried the signal? Is it measured, witnessed, rumored, remembered, interpreted, institutionally filtered, manipulated, or repeatedly confirmed? Does the channel show competence, honesty, method, accountability, and exposure to correction?
- Capacity: Is there enough safety, sleep, time, attention, embodied stability, support, and freedom from coercion to process this truthfully now?
- Agency: What action can be taken without pretending to know more than is known: revise, verify, lament, protect, confess, repent, document, seek care, practice, negotiate, ask, repair, wait, or correct?

Qualifier rule. Source trust, capacity, and agency do not decide truth. They decide how truth-pressure should be handled. Low capacity changes the order of care, not whether reality is real. High source trust does not remove the need for evidence. Agency keeps the process from becoming endless analysis.

## Three Outcomes

- Truthful resonance: facts are faced, the meaning frame is corrected or deepened, and action becomes more faithful.
- False resonance: discomfort decreases while distortion remains protected.
- Unresolved pressure: the breach remains open because more evidence, capacity, support, protection, time, or repentance is needed.

Unresolved pressure is not failure. Sometimes the most truthful state is to keep the file open: the facts are incomplete, the person is exhausted, the institution is unsafe, the grief is fresh, or the right action requires counsel and time. Honest unfinishedness is better than false closure.

## Time and Review

Pressure changes over time. A breach profile is a snapshot, not a verdict. Prediction error may fall after better evidence appears. Meaning gap may rise after the consequences become clearer. Source trust may improve or collapse as records, witnesses, measurements, and incentives are examined. Capacity may change after sleep, protection, counsel, treatment, or time. Agency may shift from wait to repair, from verify to correct, or from interpret to protect.

Review is built in because the first response should be truthful enough for the moment and humble enough to be revisited.

## Common Confusions

- Confusion | Correction
- Prediction error is the same as being upset. | Prediction error is fact-model strain. A person can feel little emotion and still face a high fact breach.
- Meaning gap is the same as confusion. | Meaning gap is meaning-level strain: identity, values, faith, loyalty, hope, or purpose under pressure.
- Source trust means trusting people who agree with me. | Source trust concerns how a signal was produced, carried, checked, and exposed to correction.
- Capacity decides whether something is true. | Capacity decides timing, support, and care. It does not decide reality.
- Agency means acting quickly. | Agency is formed capacity expressed in truthful action. Sometimes its truthful exercise is to wait, verify, stabilize, or seek help.
- Resonance means peace. | Peace may follow truthful resonance, but relief can also be false. The test is reality-contact, meaning-contact, action, and fruit.

## A Minimal Formal Statement

The structure can be stated formally without pretending that human meaning is reducible to an equation.

> Incoming reality creates pressure on a factual model and a meaning frame. Prediction error measures fact-model strain. Meaning gap measures event-meaning strain. Source trust, capacity, and agency shape whether the pressure can be processed truthfully. Cognitive resonance is truthful integration that preserves reality-contact, meaning-contact, and truthful action.

In compact notation:

where \(E\) is the incoming event or signal, \(M\) is the factual model, \(S\) is the meaning frame, \(PE\) is prediction error, and \(MG\) is meaning gap. Processing quality depends on:

For field use, the breach profile can be written as:

where \(t\) marks the review point. A later review asks how the profile changed after better evidence, better support, protective action, confession, treatment, sleep, counsel, or time. This keeps the first map from becoming the final interpretation.

The notation is a map, not a machine. It keeps the parts from collapsing into one another. In research use, these variables should be estimated through converging signals rather than guessed from the outside. Possible signals include self-report, structured interview, behavioral choices, source-checking behavior, support-seeking, rumination or avoidance measures, physiological stress markers where appropriate, and follow-up fruit. The notation is useful only if it drives better observation.
