# DDF Modern Reality Audit

**Record class:** V1 evidence audit

**Current use:** retain the collected evidence and historical judgments;
interpret them under `science-and-one-reality-method.md`, which owns the current
method.

Research pass only. This document does not update `books/divine-design-framework/main.tex`; it records the
result of checking the framework against major areas of modern reality-contact.

Method correction: `science-and-one-reality-method.md` now governs how this
evidence is interpreted. The domain evidence collected here remains useful,
but earlier labels such as `support`, `alignment`, and `science contributes
mechanism` must not be read as making science an apologetic supplier for a
theological result fixed in advance. The earlier sequence, `each field first
reaches its own conclusion; DDF synthesis follows`, is superseded. The
governing method is recursive: cross-domain hypotheses can guide questions, specialist evidence
must answer with full force, and local findings can deepen, qualify, or overturn
the whole-field synthesis. DDF remains corrigible wherever it makes claims
about created reality.

## Source Standard

The audit separates claim weight:

- **Settled operating consensus**: mature theory, measurement framework, public
  data infrastructure, clinical guideline, or intergovernmental assessment that
  can carry a stable claim.
- **Mature but incomplete theory**: reliable within domain, with known limits.
- **Frontier / contested field**: useful contact with reality, but not allowed to
  carry settled synthesis.
- **Governance consensus**: professional or institutional standard for managing
  risk within a defined domain.
- **Authorial synthesis**: DDF interpretation that must be marked as synthesis,
  not as field consensus.
- **Source-connected authorial synthesis**: an original DDF tool whose parts
  are anchored in mature adjacent research, while the integrated model still
  needs case-based, pastoral, clinical, and cross-cultural refinement.
- **Proposed model**: a named DDF model with defined constructs, mechanisms,
  predictions, practical uses, and a future validation path. It is stronger
  than metaphor and more accountable than a heuristic, while still inviting
  empirical testing.

The audit also separates integration value:

- **High integration value**: adds a mechanism the framework should explicitly
  use.
- **Strong support**: reinforces an existing claim with better source contact.
- **Bounded analogy**: useful, but not allowed to carry the stronger claim.
- **Frontier / contested**: promising, but must be marked as incomplete.
- **Do not overuse**: attractive language that can become elastic if not
  constrained.
- **Operational diagnostic**: a tool that helps classify pressure, failure,
  repair, and revision in concrete cases.
- **Research program**: a model-specific path for construct refinement,
  measurement, hypothesis testing, intervention trials, and revision.

## Executive Result

DDF's core one-reality architecture survives this modern-reality audit. Its
earlier science-control architecture does not survive unchanged: several local
claims need correction, and science must possess independent, claim-level
authority rather than being restricted to mechanisms and illustrations.

The strongest modern contact points support these DDF instincts:

- Reality is prior to models and corrects them.
- Mechanisms matter; truthful love cannot bypass mechanism.
- Created reality is scale-structured and multiply describable: physical,
  biological, cognitive, social, ecological, technological, institutional, and
  historical organization belongs to one world and is mutually constraining.
- Mediation is unavoidable: information, language, bodies, instruments,
  institutions, platforms, rituals, markets, law, and ecology all carry reality
  to receivers.
- Formation is not just spiritual metaphor. Bodies, organisms, habits, brains,
  AI systems, institutions, and cultures all become through time, constraint,
  memory, feedback, and environment.
- Correction is necessary. Mature fields build feedback, measurement, peer
  review, risk governance, clinical review, resilience planning, and revision
  triggers into their practices.
- Human beings are embodied and socially situated. Health, cognition, agency,
  dignity, and suffering cannot be read as private interior states alone.
- Ecology and infrastructure are not background scenery. They are creaturely
  conditions of bodily life.
- Truthful public knowledge depends on traceable contact: reference standards,
  calibration, uncertainty, reusable data, and correction practices.
- Institutional harm often travels through latent failure: bad controls,
  malformed incentives, secrecy, weak feedback, suppressed warnings, and
  authority without accountability.
- Bodies are continuously formed by ambient exposures: air, water, toxins,
  housing, work, food, stress, screens, climate, place, and time.
- Creaturely life is temporally ordered. Circadian rhythms, sleep, Sabbath,
  liturgy, meals, and work-rest patterns are formation channels, not decoration.
- Human bodies are porous living ecologies: microbiome, immune memory,
  tolerance, barrier integrity, and inflammation show that boundaries and
  exchange belong together.
- Human knowing is scaffolded: tools, artifacts, maps, calendars, rituals,
  ledgers, platforms, archives, and institutions help carry memory and action.
- Human knowing also has fact-story pressure. People do not only update
  propositions; they carry governing stories, identities, values, loyalties,
  and hopes. When incoming reality violates expectation, the strain can be
  factual, interpretive, moral, relational, spiritual, or mixed.
- Shared goods depend on boundary rules, monitoring, trust, sanctions, nested
  governance, logistics, energy, supply chains, maintenance, and repair.

The weakest areas are not contradictions. They are source-weight risks:

- Quantum decoherence and coherent actualization are strong physics-facing
  analogies with bounded theological use.
- Consciousness research strongly supports embodied brain contact, but no
  single theory of consciousness is settled.
- Parameter sensitivity and mathematical intelligibility are major but
  metaphysically underdetermined data. They do not constitute scientific
  `alignment` with DDF before rival interpretation is performed.
- AI formation language is one of the clearest modern mirrors for capacity,
  training, feedback, evaluation, misalignment, and brittle generalization, but
  it must remain analogy and technical visibility, not anthropology.
- Public-policy examples must be kept case-specific. "Compassion is not
  self-validating" is strong, but each example needs its own evidence path.
- Human transgenerational epigenetic inheritance remains contested; strong
  intergenerational formation claims should lean first on development,
  attachment, culture, material conditions, and institutions.
- Active inference, affordance theory, and network science are useful for
  receiver dynamics and transmission structure, but none should become a
  universal master theory.

## 1. Physics and Cosmology

### Stable modern contact

CERN describes the Standard Model as our best understanding of elementary
particles and three fundamental interactions, while explicitly noting that
gravity is not included in it. The Particle Data Group's Review of Particle
Physics remains the mature reference infrastructure for particle properties and
related physics. Planck 2018 confirms that the six-parameter Lambda-CDM model
continues to fit cosmic microwave background data extremely well, while DESI
adds current frontier pressure around dark energy and cosmic expansion.

### DDF result

Physics establishes a reality in which lawful dynamics, state, boundary
conditions, relation, interaction, symmetry breaking, causal history, and
scale all belong to explanation. It also requires source-weight discipline:
the Standard Model is extremely mature within scope but incomplete; Lambda-CDM
is powerful while the dark sector remains unresolved; quantum gravity and
measurement interpretation remain open.

DDF should treat physics as independent high-quality contact with reality, not
as a supplier of examples. Physics governs physical claims. Its results then
constrain metaphysical accounts without by themselves selecting a theological
interpretation.

## 2. Quantum, Decoherence, Thermodynamics, and Information

### Stable modern contact

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's decoherence entry is useful because it
is careful: decoherence explains suppression of interference and helps explain
the emergence of classical-looking regimes, but by itself does not settle the
measurement problem. Zurek's 2003 Reviews of Modern Physics article remains a
major technical reference. Shannon's 1948 theory gives mathematical
communication theory, but semantic information requires more than Shannon
measure. Landauer's principle connects logical irreversibility with physical
cost, though applications and formulations vary.

### DDF result

This is one of the most important classification points. Decoherence is a real
physics contact point for contact-driven stabilization and loss of interference.
It supports the poetic Rae/Len intuition when labeled correctly. It does not
prove moral discernment or Christian doctrine.

Shannon information establishes exact relations among distributions, signals,
channels, uncertainty, noise, and capacity while leaving semantics open.
Landauer applies narrowly to logically irreversible reset under specified
physical conditions. Neither result establishes a universal information
ontology, and neither permits thermodynamic language to carry claims about
truth, sin, memory, or Logos.

## 3. Mathematics, Measurement, Model-Contact, and Public Correction

### Stable modern contact

Modern science depends deeply on mathematical representation, measurement,
statistical inference, and model revision. The applicability of mathematics is a
major datum, but philosophy of mathematics remains disputed.

Metrology adds a harder discipline to this claim. NIST describes metrology as
including calibration, standard reference materials, standard reference data,
test methods, uncertainty evaluation, quality assurance, accreditation, and
traceability. Metrological traceability requires an unbroken chain of
calibrations to specified reference standards, normally national or
international realizations of SI units.

The FAIR data principles add a related knowledge-infrastructure layer:
scientific data should be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.
FAIR does not make claims true, but it makes claims more inspectable, reusable,
and correctable. The National Academies' 2019 report on reproducibility and
replicability makes the same point at field scale: mature knowledge preserves
enough data, method, context, and public process to be corrected.

### DDF result

Mathematical intelligibility is a major datum. Mathematics reveals lawful
structure, astonishing compressibility, and model-resistance, while failed
elegant theories and selection effects also belong to the record. The result
underdetermines theism, Platonism, structural realism, naturalism, and
pragmatism. DDF's Logos interpretation must therefore be argued at the
metaphysical-theological stage rather than embedded in the scientific result.

Metrology and reproducibility strengthen the Claim Card system. A claim that
cannot show its contact path is not necessarily false, but it is weaker.
Truthful empirical claims need calibrated contact with reality, stated
uncertainty, reference standards, reusable data where possible, and revision
triggers. The parallel in theological, moral, clinical, and institutional work
is not that every truth must be quantified. It is that claims should show their
source, layer, scale, affected body, warrant, and correction path.

Public correction is therefore an epistemic virtue. A failed replication does
not automatically refute a claim, and a successful replication does not
automatically prove it. But repeatable public correction is one way mature
knowledge humbles itself before reality.

## 4. Biology, Evolution, Genomics, and Formation

### Stable modern contact

Modern biology strongly supports organismal formation through heredity,
development, environment, mutation, selection, regulation, plasticity, repair,
disease, aging, and ecological dependence. ENCODE and the Human Pangenome
Reference Consortium show that the genome is not a simple static blueprint:
regulation, variation, population diversity, and context matter. Lenski's
long-term E. coli experiment gives laboratory contact with adaptive evolution
through time.

The Human Microbiome Project adds another layer: human bodies are not isolated
objects but host-microbe ecologies. Microbiome research links microbial
communities with health and disease, while still requiring caution because many
claims remain correlational or context-dependent. Immunology adds memory,
tolerance, boundary maintenance, and malfunction: adaptive immune memory enables
faster response after re-exposure; trained immunity shows innate immune
memory-like reprogramming; autoimmunity shows how failed tolerance can turn
protection against the body.

Epigenomics and Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) add a
careful formation claim. Gene expression is regulated by chemical and structural
processes that do not alter DNA sequence, and early-life conditions can shape
later vulnerability. Human transgenerational epigenetic inheritance remains
contested and should not carry broad claims about inherited trauma by itself.

### DDF result

This is one of DDF's strongest modern alignments. Formation is not imported from
AI or spirituality; it is basic to life. Living creatures become through
mediated processes across time. Human dignity must therefore not rest on
performance, intelligence, purity of genome, productivity, or autonomy. Biology
supports embodied formation and creaturely dependence, while imago Dei remains a
theological claim of divine address and vocation.

Microbiome and immunology strengthen the body's boundary grammar. Boundaries
are not the opposite of communion; they are conditions for truthful communion. A
body without exchange dies, and a body without boundary dies. At creaturely
scale, health depends on right relation among cells, microbes, barriers,
immune memory, tolerance, metabolism, and environment. This gives DDF stronger
language for body, sexuality, ecology, food, medicine, infection, autoimmunity,
and Church communion without dissolving personal identity into biology.

Epigenomics and DOHaD support formation without genetic determinism. The genome
is not a sealed destiny; development, nutrition, stress, toxins, disease, and
timing shape expression and later vulnerability. For intergenerational effects,
the strongest current claims should lean first on development, attachment,
culture, poverty, family practice, violence, and institutions, while germline
epigenetic inheritance in humans remains a narrower and contested mechanism.

## 5. Brain, Consciousness, Mental Health, and Clinical Reality

### Stable modern contact

Neuroscience strongly supports embodied cognition: brain circuits, body states,
sleep, development, trauma, disease, medication, and environment shape cognition
and agency. The NIH BRAIN Initiative exists because the brain remains
extraordinarily complex. Nature Reviews Neuroscience reviews show that
consciousness has reliable neural correlates, but theories of consciousness
remain contested. SAMHSA gives a mature public-health framework for trauma
informed care. CDC opioid guidance shows how clinical compassion must be joined
to evidence, benefit/harm assessment, follow-up, and risk management.

Circadian biology adds temporal embodiment. The 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology
or Medicine recognized discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling
circadian rhythm. Biological clocks regulate behavior, hormone levels, sleep,
body temperature, and metabolism. CDC treats sleep as a public-health issue,
and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine / Sleep Research Society consensus
statement says adults should sleep seven or more hours per night on a regular
basis for optimal health.

Allostasis adds costed adaptation. Bruce McEwen's allostasis/allostatic-load
work describes how organisms maintain stability through change. Adaptation is
active and costly. When stress systems are overused or dysregulated, allostatic
load contributes to disease risk, brain plasticity changes, and mental/physical
vulnerability.

Developmental science adds relational calibration. The Harvard Center on the
Developing Child summarizes strong evidence that young children develop in
environments of relationship, that toxic stress can disrupt developing brain
architecture, and that executive function and self-regulation skills are
developed through interaction and practice. ACE research links adverse
childhood experiences with later health risks, while newer work avoids treating
ACE scores as destiny.

Predictive processing, active inference, and ecological psychology add a
carefully bounded receiver model. Perception and action are shaped by bodies,
expectations, goals, skills, fears, and affordances. These fields are
influential but not settled into one cognitive orthodoxy.

### DDF result

DDF is strongest when it says agency is real but formed. Modern brain and
clinical research do not erase responsibility, but they reject a disembodied
view of choice. Trauma, addiction, dementia, pain, sleep, and social stress show
that bodies and histories condition the receiver. This supports DDF's insistence
on body, heart-mind, and spirit-communion as distinguishable but inseparable.

The caution: DDF must not turn clinical science into salvation, nor spiritualize
clinical danger. Care participates in truthful love when it remains in contact
with mechanism, evidence, patient context, safety, and dignity.

Circadian biology strengthens Sabbath, liturgy, prayer, fasting, meals,
sleep, and work-rest patterns as temporal mediation. Time is not merely a
container for action; rhythms form bodies and hearts. Technology, shift work,
light at night, and social pressure can distort creaturely time.

Allostasis clarifies why stability is not truth, while protection still matters.
Stability is a creaturely condition that can preserve or distort life depending
on what it stabilizes. Creatures can survive by compensating, but chronic
compensation has a price. This gives DDF stronger language for trauma, poverty,
overwork, addiction, family systems, church crisis, and institutional strain.

Developmental science strengthens formed agency. Human freedom does not appear
as an untouched will hovering above development. Attention, trust, attachment,
stress response, executive function, moral imagination, and self-regulation are
calibrated in relationship. Formation by love is therefore not sentimental; it
builds the receiver.

Affordance and active-inference research strengthen the account of perception
without becoming a universal theory of meaning. We do not receive raw facts and
then add meaning later. The world is encountered through action possibilities
relative to bodies, skills, desires, fears, and training. Sin can make
disobedience appear like freedom and faithfulness appear like loss.

## 6. Cognitive Resonance Model, Meaning, and Fact-Story Pressure

### Stable modern contact

The Cognitive Resonance Model (CRM) is an original authorial synthesis from the
Rethinking Reality manuscript. It should be named as original, but it is not
unanchored. Its nearest research neighbors are mature enough to give the model
a disciplined source-contact path.

Festinger's cognitive dissonance theory names the pressure created when
cognitions, beliefs, or actions clash. Predictive-processing and free-energy
work names the pressure between top-down expectations and bottom-up sensory
error. Clark's predictive-processing account describes cognition as a
hierarchical attempt to match incoming sensory input with top-down predictions,
while Friston's free-energy framework treats perception, learning, attention,
and action through prediction, surprise, and generative models. Meaning-making
research, especially Park's integrative review, studies how stressful events
create discrepancies between global meaning and situational meaning. Narrative
identity research treats persons as living by internalized and developing life
stories that integrate past, future, unity, and purpose. Sensemaking research
shows that people and organizations turn ambiguous circumstances into
actionable situations through language, identity, and action. Emotion-regulation
research shows that reappraisal can change how events are received and acted
upon. Trauma-informed care adds a necessary protection: meaning cannot be forced
before safety, trust, voice, collaboration, and embodied recovery.

The deeper research pass adds several refinements. Park and Folkman's earlier
meaning-and-coping model maps especially cleanly onto CRM because it
distinguishes global meaning from situational meaning. The meaning-maintenance
model explains why people often respond to meaning threat by reaffirming an
unrelated source of coherence; that is a strong account of false resonance.
Lazarus and Folkman's stress-appraisal tradition adds a capacity question:
people appraise both what is at stake and what resources are available for
coping. Motivated-reasoning and biased-assimilation research explains why a
fact can be rejected before it is fairly weighed when it threatens identity,
belonging, or moral story. Epistemic-vigilance research adds source-trust:
humans depend on testimony but must guard against accidental or intentional
misinformation. PTSD research adds the clinical boundary: trauma can create
negative appraisals and poorly contextualized autobiographical memory that keep
the person in a sense of current threat. Evidence-based trauma therapy confirms
that repair often requires both exposure to reality and careful restructuring of
the meaning attached to it.

### CRM result

CRM should be treated as a proposed model. It names the pressure that appears
when incoming reality and the governing story of life stop fitting together.
The proposed model is a valid conclusion from converging research because its
core parts are already established in adjacent literatures: prediction error,
dissonance, global and situational meaning, narrative identity, source trust,
appraisal, trauma cognition, and reappraisal. The future research task is not
to invent CRM from nothing, but to test whether this integration predicts,
classifies, and improves real cases better than its parts used separately.

CRM distinguishes two legitimate channels of human knowing:

- **Top-down abstraction**: the governing story, theology, identity,
  expectation, value structure, loyalty, and narrative frame through which a
  person or community interprets experience.
- **Bottom-up induction**: the pressure of particular encounters,
  observations, wounds, data, outcomes, surprises, and repeated patterns that
  rise from lived reality.

These channels produce two different pressures:

- **Prediction error** asks whether the model of facts has failed. The event,
  diagnosis, betrayal, result, discovery, or institutional failure did not fit
  what the current model expected.
- **Meaning gap** asks what the event does to the story being lived. The facts
  may be known, but their place inside identity, faith, calling, trust, justice,
  and hope is unstable.

The stronger version keeps those two axes but adds three qualifiers:

- **Source qualifier**: where did the signal come from, and is the testimony,
  measurement, authority, memory, or institution trustworthy?
- **Capacity qualifier**: does the person or community have enough embodied
  safety, attention, support, and time to metabolize the pressure without
  collapse or coercion?
- **Agency qualifier**: what truthful action is now possible: revised model,
  lament, repentance, repair, protection, confession, clinical care, public
  correction, or patient waiting?

The original manuscript uses illness as a simple case. A man who assumed that
faithful life meant health receives a cancer diagnosis. The diagnosis creates
prediction error because his life did not match his expectation. It creates
meaning gap because his inherited story cannot yet explain faithful suffering.
He can deny the test results, abandon faith, or do the harder integrative work:
face the diagnosis, let Job, Paul, and Jesus correct the story, and discover
that God's promise is not a painless life but presence and purpose in pain. CRM
names that middle work.

Cognitive resonance is not mere comfort. It is the state in which facts remain
faced and the story becomes truthful enough to carry action. A person can reach
false resonance by denying facts, by forcing meaning too early, by protecting a
corrupt story, or by using spiritual language to bypass grief. A community can
reach false resonance when it preserves its self-image by suppressing evidence,
victims, dissent, or institutional failure.

False resonance should be named more exactly:

- **Denial resonance** lowers prediction error by rejecting inconvenient facts.
- **Compensatory resonance** repairs threatened meaning by reaffirming an
  unrelated identity, group, ritual, or ideology instead of facing the breach.
- **Identity-protective resonance** treats evidence as a threat to belonging and
  filters it accordingly.
- **Premature spiritual resonance** forces peace, forgiveness, or purpose before
  lament, safety, judgment, and repair.
- **Clinical stuckness** keeps a person inside current threat through negative
  appraisals, self-blame, distorted world assumptions, or uncontextualized
  memory.
- **Institutional resonance** preserves legitimacy by protecting reputation,
  hierarchy, or mission language from corrective evidence.

CRM's acceptable-error space is the bounded zone where a person can question,
revise, lament, learn, and stay honest without panic or collapse. "Acceptable"
does not mean the error is good. It means the receiver still has room to think
faithfully while the pressure is being worked through. When factual pressure
crosses the boundary, the model must be revised to fit reality. When meaning
pressure crosses the boundary, values, practices, interpretation, allegiance,
or identity must be realigned. Many crises are mixed breaches and require both.

This strengthens the framework's account of formed agency. Human beings do not
choose as abstract wills receiving raw information. They receive reality through
body, heart-mind, memory, language, relationship, worship, institutions, trauma,
and hope. Facts without story can become fragmentation. Story without facts can
become delusion. Wisdom keeps both under correction.

- **Prediction error**: the felt or measured mismatch between incoming reality
  and the factual model.

- **Capacity**: the embodied, relational, spiritual, clinical, and temporal
  ability to process pressure without coercion or collapse.
- **Agency**: the next truthful action available.
- **Resonance quality**: whether the resulting integration produces greater
  truth-contact, humility, repentance, repair, protection, wisdom, and
  communion rather than mere relief.

The model makes testable predictions:

- High prediction error with low meaning gap should mainly produce model
  revision, curiosity, or technical correction.
- High meaning gap with low prediction error should mainly produce grief,
  identity threat, moral struggle, or spiritual reinterpretation.
- High prediction error and high meaning gap should predict panic,
  defensiveness, polarization, collapse, denial, or deep transformation
  depending on source trust, capacity, and support.
- Low source trust should reduce fact uptake even when evidence quality is
  high.
- Low capacity should increase premature closure, avoidance, dissociation,
  spiritual bypassing, or overcorrection.
- Naming the breach type should improve response quality because it prevents
  people from treating a fact problem as a meaning problem, or a meaning problem
  as a fact problem.
- Communities with stronger correction channels should show less institutional
  false resonance after failure.

### CRM field version

CRM becomes useful when it can be run in a moment of pressure. The simplest
version is:

**Reality hit me. What did I expect? What story did it threaten? What source,
capacity, and action do I need now?**

The practical sequence is five moves:

1. **Name the event.** State what happened in one concrete sentence. If there is
   danger, abuse, medical risk, self-harm risk, or active coercion, move first
   toward safety, protection, and appropriate professional or institutional
   help.
2. **Sort the pressure.** Ask whether the strain is mainly prediction error,
   meaning gap, or both. Prediction error says, "My model did not expect this."
   Meaning gap says, "My story does not yet know where this belongs."
3. **Check the qualifiers.** Ask three checks: Is the source trustworthy? Do I
   have capacity to process this now? What truthful action is actually possible?
4. **Choose the repair path.** Prediction breach needs evidence, measurement,
   counsel, and model revision. Meaning breach needs lament, prayer, Scripture,
   wise interpretation, confession, and story correction. Mixed breach needs
   both, usually more slowly.
5. **Act and review.** Choose one embodied next step, one truthful sentence, and
   one support person or channel. Review after sleep, counsel, new evidence, or
   a defined time window.

The working output should be short enough to write on one page:

CRM should scale by risk:

- **Green pressure**: ordinary surprise, disagreement, disappointment, or new
  information. Use the one-page version alone or with a trusted person.
- **Yellow pressure**: high-stakes conflict, repeated pattern, grief, moral
  failure, church conflict, public claim, or institutional decision. Use the
  full table, preserve notes, and involve wise counsel or accountable review.
- **Red pressure**: abuse, coercion, self-harm risk, medical danger, psychosis,
  severe trauma activation, credible threats, or institutional cover-up.
  Interpretation is not first. Safety, protection, mandated processes,
  qualified care, and documentation come first.

These severity rules make the model safer and more useful. CRM is not a way to
think harder when action is required. It is a way to know which kind of action
truth requires.

### What CRM adds to the audit

CRM gives the modern-reality audit a practical diagnostic:

- In science, CRM asks whether a theory is protecting itself from prediction
  error or rightly revising under evidence.
- In faith, it asks whether a person is deepening a true story or preserving a
  false one.
- In trauma, it distinguishes truthful integration from premature meaning-making
  that retraumatizes.
- In pastoral care, it separates factual confusion, moral guilt, shame,
  grief, spiritual accusation, and interpretive collapse.
- In institutions, it identifies how churches, schools, states, firms, and
  platforms deny prediction error to preserve meaning, reputation, authority, or
  legitimacy.
- In public culture, it explains why facts alone often fail to persuade: new
  data can threaten identity, belonging, memory, and moral story before it is
  evaluated as data.
- In repentance, it clarifies why truthful change requires both reality-contact
  and narrative reordering under God.

The source weight should be stated cleanly. CRM is a proposed model with high
integration value. Its parts have strong contact with cognitive dissonance,
predictive processing, meaning-making, narrative identity, sensemaking,
reappraisal, motivated reasoning, epistemic vigilance, trauma cognition, and
trauma-informed care. The model itself should now be developed through formal
construct refinement, case coding, measurement work, pastoral use, clinical
caution, cross-cultural feedback, intervention testing, and case-based
revision.

### Research-grade refinement path

To operationalize CRM as a proposed model, it needs stable handles:

1. **Factual model**: what the person or institution expected reality to do.
2. **Incoming signal**: the event, data, testimony, diagnosis, result, or
   failure that produced pressure.
3. **Source quality**: how the signal was mediated and how trustworthy the
   channel is.
4. **Global meaning**: the governing story, theology, identity, values, and
   assumed world.
5. **Situational meaning**: the appraisal of what this event means here and
   now.
6. **Capacity state**: the embodied, relational, clinical, and communal ability
   to process the pressure.
7. **Response pattern**: denial, biased assimilation, compensatory resonance,
   model revision, story deepening, repentance, repair, or collapse.
8. **Outcome fruit**: greater reality-contact, clearer truth, wiser action,
   restored communion, safer bodies, institutional correction, or persistent
   distortion.

Existing measurement paths can support pieces of the model without claiming to
measure the whole thing. Prediction-side work can use calibration, forecasting,
error logs, after-action reviews, and reproducibility practices. Meaning-side
work can draw from global/situational meaning measures, the Meaning in Life
Questionnaire, narrative-identity coding, World Assumptions / shattered
assumptions research, and posttraumatic cognition measures. Trauma-sensitive
use should track safety, symptom burden, functional outcome, and whether the
person is being pushed into interpretation before stabilization. Communal use
should track incident reports, ignored warnings, public correction, trust,
leader accountability, and whether evidence is allowed to change the shared
story.

### Future studies to encourage

CRM should become a research program, not only a writing framework. The most
useful next studies would be:

1. **Construct refinement study.** Use qualitative interviews and case studies
   across illness, grief, church conflict, institutional failure, scientific
   belief revision, and family rupture. Code for prediction error, meaning gap,
   source trust, capacity, agency, false resonance, and repair path. Output:
   a refined CRM coding manual.
2. **Scale-development study.** Build a CRM Inventory with subscales for
   prediction error, meaning gap, source trust, capacity, agency, and resonance
   quality. Test factor structure, reliability, test-retest stability, content
   validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and measurement
   invariance using COSMIN-style standards and current scale-development best
   practices.
3. **Existing-measure alignment study.** Compare CRM variables with the Meaning
   in Life Questionnaire, posttraumatic cognition measures, cognitive
   flexibility, intolerance of uncertainty, rumination, depression, anxiety,
   PTSD symptoms, religious/spiritual struggle, and moral injury where
   appropriate.
4. **Experimental disconfirmation study.** Present participants with
   expectation-violating information under varied source-trust and identity-
   threat conditions. Prediction: people will handle disconfirmation better
   when they can name whether the breach is factual, meaning-level, or mixed.
5. **Longitudinal crisis study.** Track people facing diagnosis, job loss,
   bereavement, faith crisis, betrayal, or institutional failure. Prediction:
   early mapping of prediction error and meaning gap will forecast later
   rumination, avoidance, resilience, repentance, repair, and integration.
6. **Intervention pilot.** Compare a CRM journaling / discernment protocol
   against expressive writing, ordinary reflection, or pastoral care as usual.
   Outcomes: clarity, reduced rumination, truthful action, help-seeking,
   forgiveness without bypassing, source checking, and follow-through.
7. **Pastoral and mentoring field trial.** Train pastors, mentors, and small-
   group leaders to use the green/yellow/red CRM protocol. Track whether it
   improves referral decisions, reduces premature spiritual answers, improves
   confession and repair, and helps people distinguish lament from unbelief.
8. **Institutional after-action study.** Apply CRM coding to church, school,
   nonprofit, company, or public-agency failures. Prediction: institutions fail
   to learn when shared meaning, reputation, or mission language blocks
   prediction error from corrective action.
9. **Cross-cultural study.** Test whether CRM categories hold across cultures
   with different shame, honor, family, authority, religious, and institutional
   patterns. Revise the model where local meaning-structures change how breach
   and repair operate.
10. **Registered-report replication path.** Preregister hypotheses, measures,
   inclusion criteria, and analysis plans using open-science practices. CRM
   should invite null results and boundary findings because those will clarify
   where the model works, where it needs revision, and where another model is
   better.

The goal of these studies is not to replace existing clinical, theological, or
organizational models. It is to test whether CRM adds explanatory and practical
power by keeping fact-pressure, story-pressure, source trust, capacity, and
agency in the same disciplined frame.

### What adjacent fields would say about CRM

The broad clinical and scientific literature would not dismiss CRM. It would
say that the core integration is plausible, useful, and unusually well-placed,
but that the model must be tested against existing models rather than merely
renaming them.

- **Predictive processing / active inference** would affirm the prediction-error
  side of CRM, while warning that predictive-processing theories themselves
  still require careful empirical comparison against rival models. CRM should
  use prediction error as a functional construct, not claim that every CRM event
  has been reduced to one brain algorithm.
- **Meaning-making research** would strongly affirm meaning gap. The global
  meaning / situational meaning distinction is one of CRM's best research
  anchors. It would ask CRM to track whether meaning-making efforts actually
  produce "meanings made": acceptance, changed appraisals, changed goals,
  changed identity, or better adjustment.
- **Trauma psychology** would affirm CRM's insistence that facts and story both
  matter. CPT's "stuck points" are close cousins to meaning-gap distortions:
  trauma disrupts schemas around safety, trust, power, esteem, and intimacy.
  Trauma research would also warn CRM never to force meaning before safety,
  stabilization, and clinical care.
- **Moral injury research** would say CRM needs a moral/spiritual branch, not
  only a fear/safety branch. Moral injury is not identical with PTSD; it often
  involves guilt, shame, anger, betrayal, forgiveness, purpose, faith, and moral

- **CBT and CPT** would say CRM is useful if it helps identify maladaptive
  appraisals and stuck beliefs, but it must not become a generic "think
  differently" tool. Good repair often requires careful case conceptualization,
  practice, exposure, behavioral change, and relationship.
- **ACT and psychological flexibility research** would say CRM should not make
  all repair depend on changing thought content. Sometimes the faithful next
  step is acceptance, defusion, values clarification, and committed action while
  uncertainty remains. This strengthens the agency qualifier.
- **Memory reconsolidation research** would support the idea that prediction
  error can open a window for updating emotional memory, but would warn that
  clinical translation is complex. CRM should treat "breach moments" as
  potentially powerful, not automatically transformative.
- **Rumination / intolerance-of-uncertainty research** would say CRM needs a
  time boundary. People can remain stuck in repeated analysis when neither
  model revision nor faithful action occurs. The field version therefore needs
  review dates, action steps, and support channels.
- **Motivated reasoning, identity-protective cognition, and misinformation
  research** would strongly support CRM's source and identity qualifiers. Facts
  often fail because they threaten belonging, reputation, moral story, or group
  identity. Correction works better when it addresses source trust and identity
  threat, not only data.
- **Psychological inoculation research** would suggest a preventive use of CRM:
  teach people common false-resonance patterns before crisis so they can
  recognize denial, manipulation, identity-protective filtering, and premature
  spiritual closure when pressure arrives.
- **Digital mental health and AI research** would see CRM as promising for
  journaling, triage, reflection, pastoral coaching, and structured
  conversations, but it would demand risk detection, human oversight, privacy,
  escalation pathways, and external validation before clinical deployment.
- **Measurement science** would say CRM is ready for construct work, not ready
  for overconfident outcome claims. Its next step is a coding manual, item
  generation, reliability testing, factor analysis, convergent/discriminant
  validity, measurement invariance, preregistered studies, and model comparison.

The net result: adjacent fields would likely say CRM is a legitimate proposed
integration model. Its distinctive contribution is not that it invented
prediction error, meaning-making, or source trust. Its contribution is that it
puts them into one practical frame so a person or community can ask: what
reality-pressure is hitting us, what story-pressure is being exposed, which
channel should be trusted, what capacity is present, and what faithful action
is now required?

### Alignment risks and repair path

CRM becomes weak if it is used to explain away suffering, rush grief, silence
lament, protect a leader's story, or make every problem sound like cognition.
The repair is built into the model itself: identify the breach type, keep facts
and meaning under correction, preserve trauma-informed safety, and allow false
stories to break.

For slow, high-stakes cases, use the long-form diagnostic:

1. What happened, and what facts must not be ignored?
2. What model did this event violate?
3. What story, identity, value, or allegiance did this event threaten?
4. Is the pressure factual, interpretive, moral, relational, spiritual,
   clinical, institutional, or mixed?
5. Does the model need revision, the story need deepening, or a corrupt story
   need repentance and replacement?
6. What embodied, communal, clinical, theological, or institutional support is
   needed before integration can be truthful?
7. Which source or authority channel is being trusted, distrusted, suppressed,
   or over-weighted?
8. What concrete action would show that resonance has become truthful rather
   than merely emotionally relieving?

## 7. Social Systems, Economics, Law, and Institutions

### Stable modern contact

WHO's social determinants work states that health is powerfully shaped by the
conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age, and by access to
power, money, and resources. The World Bank's 2024 Poverty, Prosperity, and
Planet report links poverty, prosperity, inequality, and climate risk. ILO's
decent work agenda names employment creation, rights at work, social protection,
and social dialogue. OECD's well-being framework tracks multidimensional
