# Truthful Communion: Source and Conclusion Ledger

Status: public source apparatus for the current V1 manuscript.

Public research hub: https://systemstheology.com/research

Public page: `https://systemstheology.com/research/books/truthful-communion`

Correction path: `https://systemstheology.com/research/feedback`

Central source-text anchors: `docs/research/companion-books-field-source-archive.md#public-text-anchors-for-source-checking`.

DDF reference rule: DDF coverage uses stable canonical claim IDs and named DDF sections, not manuscript line numbers. `DDF Claim 13` means the current canonical claim card; `DDF § Church, Sacrament, and Embodied Communion` means the named argument section in `books/divine-design-framework/main.tex`. Supporting DDF research is named by its full path under `books/divine-design-framework/research/`, and repository-wide controls are named under `docs/`. A book manuscript reference must name the book path or be clearly marked as reader-facing text.

## Publication Rule

Do not load the book manuscript with a large bibliography, footnote apparatus, or research appendix. The reader-facing book should include only a short note pointing to the Systems Theology research hub.

This ledger keeps the recoverable trail: how each major conclusion was reached, what DDF covers, what Scripture governs, which early Christian witnesses test continuity, and what external research only describes.

## Warrant Order

1. Original-language Scripture governs the claim.
2. DDF supplies the controlling Systems Theology interpretation and scope gate.
3. Apostolic and ante-Nicene witness tests continuity.
4. Nicene and later fathers may support where clearly marked.
5. Rethinking Reality may supply organizational language already aligned with DDF.
6. Contemporary research does not generate doctrine; it governs empirical, clinical, safety, and outcome premises within its competence.

| A global church book should write from shared church realities rather than asking readers to translate a default polity: teaching, worship, Table, money, mercy, child protection, public speech, correction, and concern paths should be named by function first, with titles used only when a scene or biblical text needs them. | `DDF § How Created Channels Work`; `DDF § Source Contact and Claim Cards`; `DDF § Church, Sacrament, and Embodied Communion`; `DDF § Christ the Center`; `DDF Claim 13`; `DDF Claim 31`; `DDF Claim 62`; `docs/resources/claim-clarity-worksheet.md` | Acts 6; Acts 14:23; Acts 15; Acts 20; Ephesians 4; 1 Timothy 3; Titus 1; 1 Peter 5; Greek `ekklesia`, `episkopos`, `presbyteros`, `diakonos`, `poimen`, `kephale`, `soma`, `diakonia` | `Didache` 15; `1 Clement`; Ignatius; Polycarp; Justin | World Council of Churches, `The Church: Towards a Common Vision`; Vatican II `Lumen Gentium` as a Roman Catholic structure witness; Pew and CSGC data on global Christian diversity and Pentecostal/charismatic scale | The manuscript should avoid laundry-list polity explanations and should not smuggle one denominational polity in as the universal church form. | Covered |

| When words or behavior suggest possible suicide or self-harm, ordinary church care should ask directly, stay present, reduce immediate danger where this can be done safely, connect the person to qualified crisis or emergency help, and continue appropriate follow-up. | `DDF § CRM as a Subordinate Discernment Tool`; `DDF Claim 8A`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 30`; `DDF Claim 31`; `docs/resources/trauma-referral-guardrails.md` | 1 Kings 19; Psalms 42-43; Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12; Galatians 6; 1 Thessalonians 5; Greek `paraklesis`, `soma`, `baros`, `phylasso`, `elpizo` | `1 Clement`; Polycarp; Irenaeus, with later Basil used only as whole-person support | NIMH, *5 Action Steps to Help Someone Having Thoughts of Suicide*; WHO, *Preventing Suicide: A Community Engagement Toolkit*; local crisis and emergency protocols | The biblical and DDF layer grounds presence, protection, and shared burden. Current qualified guidance defines a bounded first response; church leaders do not diagnose, promise secrecy, or substitute themselves for emergency and clinical care. | Covered |
| A first response to an abuse or child-protection disclosure should receive the person seriously, avoid interrogation and premature verdicts, record and report according to current local law and policy, protect against retaliation, and move the matter outside compromised authority lines. | `DDF § Source Contact and Claim Cards`; `DDF Claim 13`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 31`; `docs/resources/claim-clarity-worksheet.md`; `docs/resources/trauma-referral-guardrails.md` | Deuteronomy 19; Psalm 82; Ezekiel 34; Matthew 18; 1 Timothy 5; James 2-3; Greek `martyria`, `krino`, `phylasso`, `skandalon`, `aletheia`, `dikaiosyne` | `Didache`; `1 Clement`; Ignatius; Polycarp | CDC child-abuse and youth-serving-organization prevention resources; Child Welfare Information Gateway on clergy mandatory reporting; Church of England safeguarding first-response guidance; current local law | Serious reception is not a final finding of guilt. Evidence discipline is not passivity. Reporting and investigation belong to the authorities and qualified processes established for the jurisdiction and allegation. | Covered |
| Abuse and coercive control must not be processed as ordinary mutual conflict; spiritual language, money, technology, isolation, threats, office, or Scripture can become instruments of domination, and safety may require separation rather than joint mediation or private confrontation. | `DDF § Source Contact and Claim Cards`; `DDF § CRM as a Subordinate Discernment Tool`; `DDF Claim 13`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 31`; `docs/resources/repair-language-guide.md`; `docs/resources/trauma-referral-guardrails.md` | 2 Samuel 11-12; Ezekiel 34; Micah 3; Mark 10; Matthew 18; 2 Corinthians 4; 1 Peter 5; Greek `katakyrieuo`, `exousia`, `poimen`, `skandalon`, `phylasso` | `Didache`; `1 Clement`; Ignatius and Cyprian used critically under Christ's headship | WHO violence-against-women resources; UK statutory coercive-control guidance; SAMHSA trauma-informed approaches; qualified local domestic-abuse services | Field sources describe recognizable patterns and safer response conditions. They do not create the doctrine of authority, sin, truth, or protection. Matthew 18 cannot be turned into a rule requiring unsafe access. | Covered |
| When an allegation concerns a leader, the Church should preserve an independent concern path, take proportionate interim protection measures, and distinguish access restrictions from a final verdict while providing fair process and non-retaliatory care for every affected person. | `DDF § Source Contact and Claim Cards`; `DDF § Christ the Center`; `DDF Claim 13`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 31`; `docs/resources/claim-clarity-worksheet.md`; `docs/resources/trauma-referral-guardrails.md` | Deuteronomy 19; Acts 20; 1 Timothy 3 and 5; Titus 1; 1 Peter 5; Greek `episkopos`, `presbyteros`, `martyria`, `dokimazo`, `phylasso`, `aletheia` | `Didache`; `1 Clement`; Ignatius; Polycarp | Church of England guidance on managing safeguarding concerns and allegations; current local law, insurer requirements, and qualified independent review | Interim limits are protective, not a declaration of guilt. Formal office cannot investigate itself, and care for an accused person cannot require preservation of unsafe ministry access. | Covered |
| A church that intends to care truthfully should prepare before crisis: name emergency, reporting, domestic-abuse, child-protection, mental-health, legal, insurance, and independent leadership contacts; train first responders; and review the map at least annually. | `DDF § How Created Channels Work`; `DDF § Source Contact and Claim Cards`; `DDF § CRM as a Subordinate Discernment Tool`; `DDF Claim 13`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 30`; `DDF Claim 31`; `DDF Claim 66` | Proverbs 11 and 15; Acts 6; Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4; Greek `sophia`, `boule`, `diakonia`, `soma`, `phylasso`, `pronoia` | `Didache`; `1 Clement`; Polycarp | WHO community suicide-prevention toolkit; CDC prevention resources; SAMHSA faith-leader resources; current local law and service directories | The response map is a preparedness tool, not a universal legal policy. It must be localized, dated, tested, and kept subordinate to truthful care under Christ. | Covered |
| The manuscript should include a reader path, church field guide, group-delivery plan, protection-and-referral map, and biblical-patristic source spine so its argument can become repeatable practice without being reduced to a checklist. | `DDF § How Created Channels Work`; `DDF § Source Contact and Claim Cards`; `DDF § Church, Sacrament, and Embodied Communion`; `DDF Claim 13`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 31`; `DDF Claim 60`; `DDF Claim 66`; `docs/research/source-governance.md` | John 17; Acts 2, 6, and 15; Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 10-12; Ephesians 4; Revelation 2-3; Greek `aletheia`, `koinonia`, `soma`, `diakonia`, `martyria`, `phylasso` | `Didache`; `1 Clement`; Ignatius; Justin; Irenaeus; Polycarp; Cyprian used carefully | SAMHSA, CDC, WHO, NIMH, and current jurisdictional sources only for practical field limits | Tools serve discernment and return-to-reality; they cannot certify faithfulness, replace qualified review, or become a parallel source of doctrine. | Covered |

## V1 Revision And Derivative Controls

This is the live replacement for the retired line-number source map. Future
work must use the stable DDF Claim IDs and named sections in this ledger; never
restore raw DDF or *Rethinking Reality* manuscript line numbers as durable
navigation.

**Intended derivatives:** leader guidance for elders, deacons, pastors, and
ministry directors; ordinary-member group curriculum; a church reality audit;
safeguarding, repair, and referral training; and sermon-series support. Every
derivative must begin from a covered ledger conclusion. A new theological claim
requires the DDF coverage process before drafting.

**Source-language priorities:** Hebrew `qahal`, `edah`, `emet`, `hesed`,
`mishpat`, `shalom`, `lev/levav`, and `ra'ah`; Greek `ekklesia`, `koinonia`,
`soma`, `kephale`, `presbyteros`, `episkopos`, `diakonos`, `poimen`,
`aletheia`, `agape`, and `metanoia`. Church authority, unity, sacrament,
repentance, and protection claims must not rest on English wording alone.

**DDF spine:** embodied and communal reception; created channels; disciplined
source contact; Church and sacrament; CRM as a subordinate care-sorting tool;
the Church as necessary and dangerous; clinical limits; trauma and abuse
protection; lament and worship; Acts and communal discernment; and the biblical
heart. The corresponding *Rethinking Reality* themes are embodied Christian
practice, the Church as living body, Christ as Head, ordinary embodied life,
and biblical heart language.

**Writing controls:**

- do not make the book or its derivatives anti-church;
- do not make safeguarding a side issue;
- do not confuse claim clarity with cold rationalism;
- do not let unity, office, or reputation outrank Christ, truth, protection,
  repentance, or vulnerable people; and
- do not flatten sacrament into symbol or turn bounded sacramental claims into
  a denominational fight.

**Retained candidate ecumenical and mission sources:** [WCC, *The Church:
Towards a Common Vision*](https://www.oikoumene.org/resources/documents/the-church-towards-a-common-vision)
([PDF](https://www.oikoumene.org/sites/default/files/Document/The_Church_Towards_a_common_vision.pdf));

project](https://www.gordonconwell.edu/center-for-global-christianity/research/global-pentecostalism/).
These remain candidate field and comparative sources; revalidate them before
reuse, and do not let them govern doctrine.

## Reader Glossary Controls

The reader-facing glossary in `books/truthful-communion/main.tex` is intentionally short. These terms should stay plain in the manuscript and fuller in the source trail.

| Reader word | Source-language controls | DDF coverage | Scope limit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Truth | Hebrew `emet`; Greek `aletheia`; 1 John 1; Ephesians 4 | `DDF § Source Contact and Claim Cards`; source-contact and claim-discipline sections | Truth means reality before God, not bluntness without love. |
| Communion | Greek `koinonia`, `soma`; John 17; Acts 2; 1 Corinthians 10-12 | `DDF § Church, Sacrament, and Embodied Communion`; `DDF Claim 13` | Communion is shared life under Christ, not institutional quiet. |
| Repentance | Hebrew `shuv`; Greek `metanoia`; Psalm 51; Matthew 3; 2 Corinthians 7 | `DDF § Evil, Suffering, and Protective Response`; `docs/resources/repair-language-guide.md` | Repentance requires changed action, not image management. |
| Repair | Greek `karpos`, `katallage`; Luke 19; Matthew 5 | `DDF § Evil, Suffering, and Protective Response`; `DDF Claim 31`; `docs/resources/repair-language-guide.md` | Repair does not erase consequences, protection, or limits on trust. |
| Protection | Hebrew `mishpat`, `ra'ah`; Greek `skandalon`, `phylasso`; Psalm 82; Ezekiel 34; Matthew 18 | `DDF Claim 31`; `docs/resources/trauma-referral-guardrails.md` | Protection is theological obedience, not fear or public-relations control. |
| Care | Greek `paraklesis`, `therapeuo`, `soma`, `kardia`; James 5; Galatians 6; 1 Thessalonians 5 | `DDF § CRM as a Subordinate Discernment Tool`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 66` | Care includes prayer and wise referral; it must not bypass bodies, safety, sin, or grief. |

## Open DDF Requests

None.

## Revision And Failure Conditions

A conclusion in this ledger should be revised, paused, or sent through the DDF
coverage process if any of these happen:

- original-language Scripture work shows the governing text was misread;
- a claim depends on an English word or modern church slogan rather than the biblical text;
- early patristic witness points in a materially different direction than the module assumes;
- DDF coverage is weaker than listed or does not actually cover the topic;
- a pastoral, safeguarding, clinical, or legal reviewer identifies a harm risk not handled by the module;
- a field source is being used as if it governs doctrine;
- a denominational practice claim is smuggled into the main prose as if all Christians share it;
- a reader could use the claim to protect institution, leader, reputation, or unity against Christ, truth, repentance, or vulnerable people.

When a conclusion changes, update:

1. this ledger,
2. the affected module or chapter,
3. `docs/research/ddf-coverage-log.md` when the DDF coverage ruling changes,
4. the corresponding public source page under
   https://systemstheology.com/research.

## Website Notes

When this ledger becomes public, do not publish it as a raw dump. Shape it as:

- source method,
- chapter-by-chapter conclusion trail,
- DDF coverage table,
- Scripture and original-language controls,
- early witness notes,
- external field sources.
