# The Faith That Holds: Source and Conclusion Ledger

Status: public source apparatus for the current V1 manuscript.

Public research hub: https://systemstheology.com/research

Public page: `https://systemstheology.com/research/books/the-faith-that-holds`

Correction path: `https://systemstheology.com/research/feedback`

Central source-text anchors: `docs/research/companion-books-field-source-archive.md#public-text-anchors-for-source-checking`.

DDF reference rule: DDF coverage uses stable canonical claim IDs and named DDF sections, not manuscript line numbers. `DDF Claim 13` means the current canonical claim card; `DDF § Church, Sacrament, and Embodied Communion` means the named argument section in `books/divine-design-framework/main.tex`. Supporting DDF research is named by its full path under `books/divine-design-framework/research/`, and repository-wide controls are named under `docs/`. A catechism manuscript reference must name the book path or be clearly marked as reader-facing text.

## Publication Rule

Do not load the catechism manuscript with a large bibliography, footnote apparatus, or research appendix. The reader-facing book should include only a short note pointing to the Systems Theology research hub.

This ledger keeps the recoverable trail for each catechism answer and lesson family.

## Warrant Order

1. Original-language Scripture governs the claim.
2. DDF supplies the controlling Systems Theology interpretation and scope gate.
3. Apostolic and ante-Nicene witness tests continuity.
4. Nicene and later fathers may support where clearly marked.
5. Rethinking Reality may supply organizational language already aligned with DDF.
6. Contemporary research does not generate catechetical doctrine; it governs empirical descriptions and outcome claims within its competence.

## Conclusion Ledger

| Lesson or unit conclusion | DDF coverage | Scripture and original-language layer | Early witness | Field sources | Scope limit | Status |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Reality is God's world, held together by God, and received truthfully. | `DDF Claims 1--3`; `DDF § The Core Claim`; `DDF § Triune Ground and the Human Receiver` | Genesis 1; Psalm 24; John 1; Colossians 1; Hebrew `bara`, `tov`; Greek `logos`, `ktisis` | Irenaeus; Athanasius as support | Bible engagement data only | The claim is creation and Christology, not generic realism. | Covered |
| God is the one true God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. | `DDF Claims T1--T3`; `DDF Claim 64`; `DDF § Triune Ground and the Human Receiver` | Deuteronomy 6; Matthew 28:19; John 1; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Hebrew `YHWH`, `echad`, `ruach`; Greek `logos`, `pneuma` | Rule of faith; Justin; Irenaeus; Basil as support | State of Theology data shows confusion only | Do not teach Trinity as puzzle first; teach living communion. | Covered |
| Creation is gift, order, vocation, and worship. | `DDF Claims 1--3 and 2A`; `DDF § Purpose and Formation`; `DDF § The Formation Ecology in Brief` | Genesis 1-2; Psalm 19; Psalm 104; Revelation 4; Hebrew `tov`, `kabod`; Greek `doxa`, `ktisis` | Irenaeus; Athanasius; Gregory of Nyssa as support | none required for doctrine | Creation is from divine fullness, not divine need. | Covered |
| Human beings are image-bearers with bodies, hearts, and life before God, made for communion. | `DDF Claims 7--8A and 66`; `DDF § Triune Ground and the Human Receiver` | Genesis 1-2; Psalm 8; James 3; Hebrew `tselem`, `nephesh`, `ruach`; Greek `eikon`, `soma`, `kardia` | Irenaeus; Tertullian on flesh; Gregory of Nyssa as support | none required for doctrine | Do not split the person mechanically; DDF keeps whole-person reception. | Covered |
| The heart is the center of thought, love, desire, fear, memory, trust, and choice before God. | `DDF Claim 66`; `DDF § Triune Ground and the Human Receiver` | Deuteronomy 6; Proverbs 4; Jeremiah 17; Luke 6; Romans 10; Hebrew `lev/levav`; Greek `kardia`, `nous` | Augustine as late support for ordered love | none required for doctrine | The heart is not mere emotion. | Covered |

| Unit 6 inherits DDF's Adamic distinctions: Adam and Eve are the historical Adamic pair and first covenantal heads of the fallen human order; their act places humanity under an objective corporate condition of Sin and Death; headship is not reducible to genetic descent; actual pre-Adamic personhood and its relation to Adam remain underdetermined. | `DDF Claims 9 and 21`; `DDF § Agency, the Fall, Sin, and the Powers`; `DDF § One Created Reality` | Genesis 1--3; Romans 5:12--21; 1 Corinthians 15:21--49 | Irenaeus, *Against Heresies* III.18, IV.38, and V.1; Athanasius, *On the Incarnation* 3--10 | Human-origins and population-genetics sources cited by DDF Claim 21 constrain biological history but cannot establish personhood or covenantal relation. | Keep biological humanity, personhood, image-bearing, covenantal headship, culpability, mortality, and participation in Adam distinct; do not invent a transmission mechanism. | **Inherited status:** DDF doctrinal assertion for the historical pair and covenantal headship; Claim 21 gives that clause no separate confidence rating. High that genetic ancestry, genealogical ancestry, and covenantal headship are nonidentical; moderate DDF synthesis on the occurrence--reign distinction; unknown and underdetermined on transmission mechanics and actual pre-Adamic personhood, Godward alignment, culpability, population, resurrection history, and relation to Adamic headship. |
| Israel is covenant pedagogy and blessing for the nations, not a disposable preface. | `DDF § Scripture's Canonical Arc`; `DDF Claim 54` | Genesis 12; Exodus 19; Deuteronomy 6; Psalm 67; Isaiah 49; Hebrew `berit`, `torah`, `qadosh`, `hesed` | Justin; Irenaeus | none required for doctrine | Teach fulfillment in Christ without erasing Israel. | Covered |

| The cross forgives, judges evil, defeats powers, reconciles, and opens communion. | `DDF Claims 9B, 11, and 63`; `DDF § Christ the Center`; `DDF § Evil, Suffering, and Protective Response` | Isaiah 53; Mark 10; Romans 3; 2 Corinthians 5; Colossians 2; Greek `stauros`, `hilasterion`, `lytron`, `haima` | Justin; Irenaeus | none required for doctrine | Do not use the cross to pressure victims or hide injustice. | Covered |
| Cross catechesis should be speakable after an apology, showing ordinary readers that Jesus' death names sin truthfully, bears judgment, gives mercy, and opens the way to confession and repair without making consequences disappear. | `DDF § Christ the Center`; `DDF § Evil, Suffering, and Protective Response`; `DDF Claim 28`; `DDF Claim 31`; `DDF Claim 63`; `DDF Claim 66`; `docs/resources/repair-language-guide.md` | Isaiah 53; Mark 10; Romans 3; 2 Corinthians 5; Colossians 2; 1 John 1; Greek `stauros`, `haima`, `hilasterion`, `lytron`, `hamartia`, `metanoia`, `homologeo`, `katallage`, `koinonia`, `aletheia` | Rule of faith; Justin; Irenaeus; `1 Clement`; Polycarp | catechesis and pastoral-care field signals only | Kitchen-table cross language must not reduce atonement to a single image, erase consequences, make victims carry adult comfort, or turn repair into image management. | Covered |
| Resurrection is bodily new creation, not metaphor or escape. | `DDF Claims 15, 15A, and 63`; `DDF § Resurrection and Apocalyptic Witness` | Luke 24; John 20; Romans 8; 1 Corinthians 15; Greek `anastasis`, `egeiro`, `aparche`, `ktisis` | Irenaeus; Athanasius | none required for doctrine | Hope is bodily, public, and creation-restoring. | Covered |
| Unit 18 teaches final judgment as Christ's objective defeat of evil: all are raised, history and works are disclosed, accountability and recompense are differentiated, life is only in Christ, and Scripture's second-death warning is real; the terminal model remains ranked rather than collapsed into the shared architecture. | `DDF Claims 15, 39, and 63`; `DDF § Resurrection and Apocalyptic Witness`; `DDF § Final Judgment, Hell, and Anti-Communion` | John 5:24--29; Romans 2:5--16; Matthew 25:31--46; 1 Corinthians 3:10--17; Revelation 20--21; Greek `anastasis`, `krisis`, `thanatos`, `limne tou pyros` | *Didache* 16; Justin, *First Apology* 8, 12, 17, and 52; Irenaeus, *Against Heresies* V.27 and V.31 | none required for doctrine | Preserve the source-established sequence while distinguishing the three terminal branches: final destruction, endless conscious punishment, and universal restoration; never present one synthesis as the direct wording of one proof-text. | **Inherited status:** source-established/high on embodied resurrection, disclosure, judgment according to works, differentiated accountability, lasting consequence, life only in Christ, and final victory over evil and death; DDF inference/moderate on conscious proportionate answerability and receiver-conditioned anguish as one possible mode; authorial judgment/moderate on staged conditional final destruction; everlasting conscious punishment remains a serious rival; authorial hope/lower confidence on universal restoration; unknown on the exact duration and mechanism of every final punishment. |
| The Holy Spirit is personal Lord and giver of life, not force, mood, or intensity. | `DDF Claims T1--T2, 10, and 64`; `DDF § Triune Ground and the Human Receiver` | Ezekiel 36-37; John 14-16; Acts 2; Romans 8; Galatians 5; Hebrew `ruach`; Greek `pneuma`, `parakletos`, `arrabon` | Rule of faith; Basil as support | State of Theology confusion data only | Field data explains need; Scripture and DDF govern doctrine. | Covered |

## V1 Revision And Derivative Controls

This is the live replacement for the retired line-number source map. Future
work must use stable DDF Claim IDs and named sections in this ledger; never
restore raw DDF or *Rethinking Reality* manuscript line numbers as durable
navigation.

**Intended derivatives:** new-believer or membership classes; parent and youth
editions; small-group leader guidance; memory and review tools; and theologian
or teacher notes. Every derivative must begin from a covered catechism
conclusion. A new theological claim requires the DDF coverage process before
drafting.

**Source-language priorities:** Hebrew `bara`, `tov`, `tselem`, `ruach`,
`nephesh`, `lev/levav`, `torah`, `berit`, `qadosh`, and `hesed`; Greek
`logos`, `ktisis`, `eikon`, `sarx`, `pneuma`, `hamartia`, `dikaiosyne`,
`charis`, `pistis`, `anastasis`, and `ekklesia`. Answers using words such as
“faith,” “soul,” “spirit,” “church,” or “righteousness” must not rest on
English wording alone.

**DDF spine:** given and received reality; Triune ground and human reception;
purpose and formation; Scripture's canonical arc; early and received witness;
Christ as the center; resurrection and new creation; foundational and
doctrinal claim families; Pauline salvation; the Holy Spirit; and the biblical
heart. The corresponding *Rethinking Reality* themes are the limits of
language, purpose and formation, Edenic trust and limits, sin as distorted
communion, embodied Christian practice, Logos and incarnation, and biblical
heart language.

**Writing controls:**

- do not turn the catechism into a framework manual;
- do not make short answers cute, thin, or detached from Scripture;
- do not hide Trinity, sin, judgment, Church, or bodily resurrection;
- do not use prooftexts as decoration;
- do not let practice become self-improvement; and
- do not talk down to youth, new believers, or ordinary readers.

## Reader Glossary Controls

The reader-facing glossary in `books/the-faith-that-holds/main.tex` gives ordinary-language handles. These are not independent doctrinal definitions; they summarize covered claims.

| Reader word | Source-language controls | DDF coverage | Scope limit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Catechism | Greek `katecheo`, `didache`, `paradosis`; Deuteronomy 6; 1 Corinthians 15; 2 Thessalonians 2 | `DDF § Grace, the Holy Spirit, and Restored Communion`; `DDF Claim 13`; catechesis rows above | Catechism serves Scripture and received faith; it must not become slogans detached from worship and obedience. |
| Reality | Hebrew `bara`, `tov`; Greek `logos`, `ktisis`; Genesis 1; John 1; Colossians 1 | `DDF § The Core Claim`; `DDF § Triune Ground and the Human Receiver`; `DDF § Foundational Claims` | Reality is God's world, not private meaning or generic realism. |
| Communion | Greek `koinonia`, `soma`; John 17; Acts 2; 1 Corinthians 10-12 | `DDF § Church, Sacrament, and Embodied Communion`; `DDF Claim 13` | Communion is life with God and others in truth and love. |
| Sin | Hebrew `hata`, `awon`, `pesha`; Greek `hamartia`, `sarx`; Genesis 3; Romans 1-7 | `DDF § How Created Channels Work`; `DDF § Evil, Suffering, and Protective Response`; `DDF Claim 41` | Sin includes guilt, wound, rebellion, captivity, and corrupted worship. |
| Grace | Greek `charis`; Romans 3-8; Ephesians 2; Titus 2 | `DDF § Christ the Center`; `DDF § Evil, Suffering, and Protective Response`; `DDF Claim 63` | Grace is God's saving action in Christ, not permission to avoid repentance. |
| Church | Greek `ekklesia`, `soma`, `koinonia`; Acts 2; Ephesians 2-4; 1 Timothy 3 | `DDF § Church, Sacrament, and Embodied Communion`; `DDF Claim 13`; `DDF Claim 14` | The Church is Christ's body: necessary and accountable. |
| Resurrection | Greek `anastasis`, `egeiro`; Luke 24; John 20; 1 Corinthians 15 | `DDF § Resurrection and Apocalyptic Witness`; `DDF Claim 63` | Resurrection is bodily new creation, not metaphor or escape. |
| Hope | Greek `elpis`; Hebrew `qavah`; Romans 8; Revelation 21-22 | `DDF § Resurrection and Apocalyptic Witness`; `DDF Claim 60`; `DDF Claim 63` | Hope is Christ's promised future and present endurance, not vague optimism. |

## Open DDF Requests

None.

## Revision And Failure Conditions

A catechism answer in this ledger should be revised, paused, or sent through
the DDF coverage process if any of these happen:

- original-language Scripture work shows the short answer overclaims or misframes a text;
- the lesson depends on an English word study without Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek control;
- the answer sounds memorable but becomes doctrinally thin under suffering, sin, Church, Spirit, resurrection, or pastoral care;
- early patristic witness or the rule of faith shows the wording is not recognizably Christian;
- DDF coverage is weaker than listed or does not actually cover the topic;
- a youth, new believer, pastor, or theologian cannot affirm the answer without major qualification;
- a field source is being used as if it supplies doctrine;
- the answer uses DDF vocabulary so heavily that Scripture and confession no longer sound primary.

When a conclusion changes, update:

1. this ledger,
2. the affected lesson or leader guide,
3. `docs/research/ddf-coverage-log.md` when the DDF coverage ruling changes,
4. the corresponding public source page under
   https://systemstheology.com/research.

## Website Notes

When this ledger becomes public, shape it by lesson families rather than by raw bibliography:

- first twelve lessons,
- forty-lesson map,
- original-language term controls,
- early witness continuity notes,
- DDF coverage and request status,
- field research explaining why catechesis matters now.
